Phil 1: 6-11
Remember the Day of your Conversion?
" Oh Happy DAY….."
Do you remember being born again?
The Christian Life is more than getting religion.
Baptism and church membership cannot save.
Religious ceremonies and pronouncements cannot save.
Model the Christian Life
What has God done in your life?
A. God’s work in you had a beginning.
" He who hath begun a good work in you…"
You haven’t always been a Christian.
Even so, you have been beneficiary of God’s blessings
a. The rain falls on the just and the unjust.
b. God’s handiwork and wonders surround us.
Believers have a special work of God in them.
a. A work of the God’s spirit that brought conviction of sin.
Use to go astray living in sin and unrighteousness and filthiness, and we had a wrong attitude. We "were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the shepherd and bishop of our souls."(1 pt 2:25) You no longer walk in your old ways. A desired effect of this is that we now have humbled ourselves, we have become dead to sinful things of a past life; we now live in righteousness.
b. A work of God that enabled an understanding of the Word( the Gospel)
By studying the word, the only source of knowledge of God’s true character. This is how personal knowledge God’s character, of God’s personality, and of God’s divine will is developed in our minds. "..in all thy getting, get understanding." - V.10
c. A work of God that brought about FAITH in CHRIST.
With FAITH we must preach principles that Christ taught us; it must be like a light upon a hill; it must be like the Light of the world. It must become the salt of the earth, and become the deterrent against sin.
Has there been a new beginning in your life?
The new birth is absolutely necessary to enter heaven (John 3: 1-5)
B. God’s work in you is a GOOD WORK!
" A good work in you"
Some people are AFRAID to let God work in their lives.
a. There’s FEAR that God might embarrass them.
b. There’s FEAR that God might take something away from them.
c. There’s FEAR that they may become religious fanatics.
BUT God works for our good.
a. Salvation is a good work
b. Discipleship is a good work.
c. Personal revival is a good work.
d. Stewardship is a good work.
e. Servanthood is a good work.
f. L-O-V-E is a good work.
God’s work IS US through three things.
a. The Bible (HEB. 4:12)
" For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
b. God’s spirit (John 14: 17-18)
" I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you." " Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live ye shall live also."
c. Circumstances (Rom 8: 28)
" And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
*Conclusion*
Know that God’s work in you is a continuing work
" He will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ"
God is not through with you yet.
The work of God is a permanent work. (It can’t be undone)
God’s Goal is to make you more like Jesus (Rom. 8: 29)
What does God need to in you to accomplish his purpose?
Know that you are GOOD WORK!
Recognize God’s work in you…..Cooperate with the Lord.
Recognize God’s work in you today…..Live it!
Rom. 8: 31 ……." If God be for us, who can be against us? "
