Job 31
1I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? 2For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? 3Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity? 4Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps? 5If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; 6Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity. 7If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands; 8Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.
1.Let me be weighed in an even balance.
2.WHAT WE ARE IS WEIGHED AGAINST WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE.
3.I know a man who is responsible for the weights and measures department for the county. His job is to go around to grocery stores and gas stations and weigh the products. He looks at the written wrapper weight –then weighs the product to make sure we are buying the amount the seller claims to have packaged.
4.He recently told us about candy that has paper advertisements stuff into the bags to increase the weight. You aren’t getting all the candy you should. Some companies get fined by the State if the weights aren’t balanced.
5.When you buy gas, there should be a sticker showing that the gallon you are paying for is a true weight and volume. It has been proven.
Proverbs 20
23Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
1.GOD WANTS A TRUE BALANCE ON THE SCALES.
2.Different weights are an abomination to the Lord.
3.You might get away selling yourself as something you are not to a lot of people, but God is going to put your works on the scales.
Proverbs 11
1A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
1.I heard a story on the radio and hopefully I remember it.
There was a butcher in a meat shop who was down to his last chicken for sale. A woman came in and asked if he had chicken for sale. He said, “Yes” and put the chicken on the scales to be weighed for cost. The woman said, “No that doesn’t weigh enough, do you have another?” The butcher put the chicken back into the container and acted like he pulled out a different chicken. He weighed it with his thumb on the scale. “This one weighs a ½ pound more.” The woman replied, “Good, I’ll take both of them.”
2.GOD DOESN’T WANT US TO LIVE A LIFE OF DECEIT.
3.How many claim to be Christian, but when weighed by God they come up short on the scales?
Matthew 23
27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. 28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
1. Jesus had the religious folks of his day up on the scales.
2.Jesus was weighing them and found them not to be a true weight. It was a false balance.
3.I recently spoke to a woman whose husband as a teenager felt his call to preach. He was sent to a bible college where he saw many playing the hypocrite. In public appearing holy, but in private living like the devil. He got discouraged and backslid for a while.
4.A false balance is abomination to the LORD.
Isaiah 40
12Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? 13Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? 14With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?
1.GOD IS THE GREATEST WEIGHTS AND MEASURES INSPECTOR.
2.He can weigh the weight of all the oceans, lakes and rivers in the hollow of his hand.
3.He checks the weight of the hills and mountains.
4.It is God alone who knows how to weigh the hearts and deeds of men.
Proverbs 16
11A just weight and balance are the LORD’S: all the weights of the bag are his work.
1.If we rely on our flesh to bring us into a just weight and balance, it will never happen.
2.It will take the Lord bringing balance to our life.
3.Our false balance weight is removed at an altar of repentance and through water baptism in Jesus’name.
4.It is the Word of the Lord and the Holy Ghost that helps bring us into balance.
Job 31

1.We need to put ourselves on the scales tonight and let God weigh us.
2.He knows if we are weighing in at an even balance.
