Summary: If you are tired of being thirsty, come for a drink of living water.

RECEIVE FROM THE LORD

JOHN 4: 1-14

4:1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

2(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

4 And he must needs go through Samaria.

5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life

We need to try and get the picture this morning of what Jesus was doing 2000 years ago, so that we can understand what it is that He is wanting and trying to do today.

He was out traveling around the country side, because the Word said that He came to a city of Samaria, which was called Sychar, near the place Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

I believe that He travels all around in the hour we are living in. Why? Because He has children and potential children all over the world that He needs to minister to. Every kind of deliverance that you can imagine is needed in the people of this world. And, through those who will be used of Him, He is still working in this world.

The Bible said that the place He came to had a well located on it. Being wearied with His journey, He sat on the side of the well. It was about noon time. In the heat of the day. The part of the day when a person could desire a drink of water because of the heat.

Now, we remember the story, a woman came to the well to draw water and when she arrived at the well, Jesus said to her Give me to drink.

Isn’t that just like the Son of God. He has more than we can even imagine and He asks us to give Him to drink.

And a lot of time people don’t know how to respond to that. What is He saying, " Give me to drink?" How can I give to Him? I’ve never even seen Him. Well, the truth of the matter is, we have seen Him. We see Him in other people who have helped us to get to where we are today if we know Him as our Saviour. We, the Church, are the only Jesus that people, who are in our community, are ever going to see.

So, how are we going to give to Him a drink. He said, In so much as ye have done it to one of the least of these, ye have done it unto me. Wow, by helping others who are hurting, we are doing it unto Him.

The Bible says that one day He passed by Matthew. Listen, Matthew needed Him. He needed Him in his life. He needed to be changed and conformed to the teachings of a man who was born of a woman, but at the same time was born of God. He needed Jesus.

Thank God, one day He passed by me. I also needed Jesus. My life needed to be changed and molded into something different. I needed a drink of the water that Jesus had to offer, just like the woman at the well. Praise the Lord He came by.

Hey! You needed Him to pass by you too. You needed help. Your life needed change. You needed Him! Thank God, He passed by. Thank God you received Him as your Saviour, Deliver, and your Healer.

The woman couldn’t understand how He, being Jewish related, would have anything to do with a Samaritan woman like her.

And we, like her, have to get past all that. We have to stop looking at rich or poor, black, brown, yellow, white or whatever and start looking at people as a soul and know that they are all the creations of God and that He loves us all the same and that is what we are going to have to do if we are going to ever be in heaven.

When she asked Him why he talked to her, he said, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldst have asked of him, and He would have given thee living water.

I don’t know about you today, but I want all of that living water that He will give me. I don’t like being thirsty. He said if we would drink of the water that He could give that we would never thirst again.

Folks who drink from the water of the world continue to thirst. That’s why they keep having to have another fix, another drink, another smoke, or go through another motel door. They are never satisfied. Their thirst is never quinched.

Oh, but the water that He has to give will be in us a well springing up into everlasting life. Give me that water! Let me drink it, let me wade out into it, let me bathe in it. Let it flow in me, through me, and out from me.

The hour we are living in is the greatest of all time. Soon and very soon we are going to see the King. The Lord said to watch the fig tree. When It starts to blossom the time is at hand. Come on Church, watch the middle east. Look at what all is going on. Watch Israel. Look in the Bible in Matthew 24 and read what Jesus said. Tell me you don’t see all that happening. Time as we know it is coming to a close. The table is being set. We are about to hear a shout, the trumpet is soon to sound. Hey! Jesus is about to come in the clouds. The dead are about to rise and go to meet Him in the air and we which are alive and remain are going to be caught up together with them in the clouds forever to be with Him.

We better get ready, because ready or not, here He comes.

He wants to give us a drink. He wants to give us gifts of God. Gifts like salvation, healing, and deliverances of all kinds. You can’t be a part of what is going on sitting in the stands. If you come to the gym and just sit in the stands and watch, you will just be a witness to what is happening for those who are out there on the court. You have to get up and get on the playing floor to make a goal.

What am I saying today? If you need a drink of any kind today, get up out of the stands where everyone else is sitting and watching what is going on, and come receive from God.

Whatever you need from Him, He is here today to give it to you.

Please, come and get a drink of His water.
