Summary: Two dangers lurk in the church, ZEAL WITHOUT WISDOM or WISDOM WITHOUT ZEAL. Both are deadly.

ZWW or WWZ

We need an Understanding of ZEAL.

What is zeal? An eargerness, passion, vigorously pursuing, aim high, fire in the bones.

ZWW or WWZ comes from a CM Ward thought.

Today I ponder two things that can kill a church,

WWZ and ZWW.

These letters identify a terrible disease that can

kill.

ZWW and WWZ can kill just like AIDS, STD’s, TB.

1. We need a proper diagnosis.

Disease usually has some signs and symptoms.

God, give us the back bone to investigate and

analyze our situations, and deal with the problems.

Where is the evaluation system within our hearts?

1 Peter 2:17, For the time is come that judgment

must begin at the house of God: if it first begin at

us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the

Gospel of God?

The earlier the diagnosis, the quicker the healing

process can begin, the better the prognosis.

God knows how to deliver! Let Him.

With the Word of God applied liberally to all

wounds, we can expect a full , speedy recovery.

2. LET US IDENTIFY ZWW AND WWZ.

Both of these terrible diseases can be deadly.

A. ZWW--- ZEAL WITHOUT WISDOM ---

Zeal and ignorance make a bad team.

Mark 14:47, And one of them that stood by, drew a

sword, and smote a servant of the High Priest, and

cut off his ear.

Peter moved in great zeal to start a revolution, but

Peter forgot some basic ideas,

--- one being: he that lives by the sword, dies by

the sword.

Peter loved Jesus, but Peter had not learned a

lesson.

Peter’s zealous activity was without counsel,

without thought, and without prayer.

Zeal without wisdom ignores all counsel.

This is what I want, God wants what I want,

therefore full steam ahead.

Proverbs 11:14 warns: Where no counsel is, the

people fall: but in the multitude of counsel there

is safety.

It is easy to seek counsel, then ignore it.

Where there is zeal and no wisdom, one can

misinterpret and see things how,

"I WANT TO SEE THEM."

Sure, Peter thought he was moving in a directive

ordained by God.

Zeal and ignorance can have some good plans.

Peter slept through a prayer meeting, woke up to

meeting Jesus, Moses, and Elijah ---

and in his excitement Peter said,

LET’S BUILD THREE CHURCHES HERE.

Never forget, you can’t build churches while sleeping

through prayer.

Good intentions are not enough.

Paul again identifies this ZWW disease,

Romans 10:2, For I bear them record, that they have

A ZEAL OF GOD, but not according to knowledge.

3. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness,

and going about to establish their own

righteousness,

HAVING NOT SUBMITTED THEMSELVES unto the

righteousness of God.

Beware of zeal that will not submit.

In great zeal, Samson prayed,

"God touch me one more time..."

We know victory comes, but Samson could have ruled

many years and had many victories.

He prayed in zeal, but with ignorance.

Samson’s failure dictated to his faith,

faith should dictate to all failure.

Zeal can even team God and gain and prosperity.

If you really love the Lord, you will never be sick,

have a boat, airplane, and bank account.

Preach this message in Haiti?

1 Timothy 6:5 Perverse disputing of men of corrupt

minds, and destitute of truth, SUPPOSING THAT GAIN

IS GODLINESS: FROM SUCH WITHDRAW THYSELF.

Zeal without wisdom is often identified with a new,

or a weak word Christian.

For this reason Paul gives us 1 Timothy 3:6, Not a

NOVICE, lest being lifted up with pride, he fall

into condemnation of the devil.

A novice is a beginner.

Beginner’s zeal is wonderful, may they never lose

it.

But we need a probationary, growing, developing,

training attitude.

We must submit and become a student, ever

learning....

B. WISDOM WITHOUT ZEAL ----

Maybe a more deadly disease is rampant in the

church, this is WISDOM WITHOUT ZEAL.

We have many sitting in the pews of do nothing,

until a stink of offensiveness before the altar.

We offer prayerless pews, powerless pulpits,

deficient fasting.

Many call on God, but they use caller ID,

and refuse to answer God’s call.

We say, here God, here am I, send me?

But we plan on staying right where we are?

Elijah had to leave the comfort of the cave to

minister.

We wait for more perfect conditions,

Proverbs 20:4.

Let’s attend another seminar, hear another tape,

then we will get excited?

We have little understanding of teaming wisdom and

zeal, and going into the highways and byways.

We sing, SEND THEM IN --- God send them in?

God says: BRING them in ---

We need excitement in the House of God.

Psa. 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me,

Let us GO into the house of the Lord.

Ecc. 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand finds to do, do it

with thy might; for there is no work, nor device,

nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you

head.

Rom. 12:11 Not slothful (lazy, slow) in business;

but FERVENT (excited, glowing, great feeling, zeal)

in spirit; serving the Lord.

Gal. 4:18 But it is good to be zealously affected

always in a good thing, not only when I am present

with you.

2 Timothy 1:6 Wherefore I put you in remembrance,

THAT YOU STIR UP the gift of God, which is in you.

John 2:17 And His disciples remembered what was

written, THE ZEAL OF YOUR HOUSE HATH EATEN ME UP.

Jesus had zeal

--- Luke 2:49 ---Didn’t you know I must (I had) to

be about my father’s business?

3. WE MUST HAVE A REBIRTH OF ZEAL AND WISDOM IN THE CAMP OF GOD!

We have a lacking in the zeal and wisdom, thus no

established priorities within the church.

We get more excited over ball games then eternal

values?

John 4:35 Say not you, There are yet four months,

and then comes the harvest? Behold, I say to you,

Lift up your eyes, and LOOK on the fields; they are

white already to harvest.

We need goals, evaluation, accountability, plans,

programs... BUT ALL THESE MUST BE BIRTHED IN ZEAL.

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord your God with

ALL the heart, and with ALL your soul, with ALL your

mind, and with ALL your strength: this is the first

commandment.

Mark 12:33 And to love Him with ALL the heart, with

ALL the understanding, and with ALL the soul, and

with ALL your strength, and to love neighbor as

yourself... IS MORE THAN ALL WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS

AND SACRIFICES.

We need a good balance with zeal and wisdom, God fan

the flame, but casue us to move in Your Leadership.
