TEXT:

Romans 12: 14 Bless them that persecute you, BLESS, and curse not.

15. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

16. Be of the same mind one to another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

17. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

19. Dearly beloved, AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES, but rather give place unto wrath; for it is written, VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY, saith the Lord.

20. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, FEED HIM; if he thirst, GIVE HIM drink: for in doing so thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up STRIFES,

but love covers up all sins.

Let us consider CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Let us look at the great wisdom and stupidity of Popeye.

Remember how Popeye and Brutus would fight over OLIVE OYL?

Go figure?

Olive Oyl was one of the ugliest bean nose telephone pole shaped women that ever lived? If there is one thing worse than her looks, she had a rotten personality. I could never understand Popeye.

I was never smart, but I could never figure why Popeye waited until Brutus had Popeye’s girl on Brutus’ arm, and poor old Popeye was beat to death,

THEN POPEYE WOULD SAY:

ME’S HAD ALL ME’S CAN STAND, AND ME CAN’T STANDS NO MORE.

Then, THEN, only then would -- Popeye reach for the SPINACH can, there was barely any strength to eat the spinach.

Popeye seemed to live inches away from defeat.

Then Popeye would jump up and gain a great victory and get Olive Oil back on his arm.

DUMB? DUMB? DUMB?

Not just dumb to take Olive Oil back, but dumb to wait until he is near his end to eat spinach.

POPEYE NEVER LEARNED: CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Popeye should have ate spinach for breakfast, lunch, dinner and for snacks.

He had the power, he knew the plan, he knew...

He just lacked a love, respect, and discipline for what would bring him to victory.

That is not my lesson, but I hope you learn a lesson from our hero Popeye?

Stay ready. Ready for what? Ready for anything!

CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES, CAN YOU SEE?

I would like to approach another guy, seems he to lived on the edge.

Wempy is his name.

Can you imagine what WEMPY’S life must have been like?

Wempy was always hungry, but never had any money to buy him any food.

Wempy’s line went something like this,

you scholars of great literature will recall:

I WILL GLADLY REPAY YOU TUESDAY FOR A HAMBURGER TODAY.

I can identify the Wempy spirit in the church and in our society today.

We want to live on credit.

We want to live above our means.

We want what our parents have today, today.

I don’t know what got Wempy first, a heart attack from high cholesterol,

or his monthly payments.

But, CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

I have been a student of life and of the Word of God for many years.

I have learned a few things, yet wisdom eludes me,

kind of like catching a butterfly.

Just when I have it, it flies away.

But I have learned some basic things.

1. MAN CAN BE SO SMART.

Man’s creativeness is so cool. Life is profound. Love can conquer anything.

Life is so full of wisdom, one can learn by revelation of the Word of God and studying people.

Life is so full of greatness that great meditation will fill our hearts.

Life is so wonderful one cannot understand and know it all.

Life is a great mystery! Life cannot be fully understood by human reasoning.

There is no problem that God and the individual cannot solve.

Challenges are but doorways to God’s opportunities.

Life is wonderful and mankind and life can be so beautiful.

Man can reach to the lowest levels and lift another to new levels.

I have also learned point two.

2. MAN CAN BE SO STUPID.

Strong people can be weak.

Seems like man can make a mess out of anything.

Mankind can make the most unintelligent decisions and be so blind to the consequences of stupidity.

Man can allow life to rob him of his dreams, his feelings and hearing can get dull, that reality becomes distorted.

Vanity and Vexation says Solomon.

People can be mean, selfish, self-centered, spiteful, and ungrateful.

3. LIFE HAS A MIRROR EFFECT.

If a donkey peers into a mirror, don’t expect to see a prophet!

Words are mirrors. Actions are mirrors.

If you have read my works, one of my constant themes is:

If you want things differently, you better change what you are giving.

Have you ever stood before a mirror that distorts everything?

Some make you tall and skinny, some make you short and fat,

but know, the vision is distorted.

If you wear rose colored glasses all will be rosie?

4. VENGEANCE COMES OUT OF DESPITEFUL HEARTS.

OLD HATREDS BACKFIRE AND KILL MANY.

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up STRIFES,

but love covers up all sins.

While there is great power in unity, there is great fleshly power

in discord, disunity, strifes, and disappointments.

Please note the literary tool of plural, S, hate does not just stir strife, it stirs up STRIFES --- more than one, many.

I heard this true story of solar powered dryers, the clothes line.

Two neighbors lived with their back yards facing each other.

The one neighbor noticed how clean her neighbor’s clothes were hanging on the line drying.

Over some long period of time, the nosey neighbor noticed how dirty her other neighbor’s clothes were.

The whites were dingy and yellow.

She told several people at church how her neighbors clothes were not clean any more.

STRANGE?

One day in the spring, the lady and her husband washed her windows, the next day her neighbor’s clothes were clean again?

Strange, how one can come to the conclusion and tell others her neighbor’s problem of dingy clothes, when it was her that had dirty windows.

Ponder, think she ever announced at church, she was the dirty neighbor?

We have a growth of strifes, all around...

identify the things that gender strifes and flee... FLEE.

2 Tim. 2:23.

Don’r forget: CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES. If you choose strifes and discord, you will come out hurting.

Did you hear about the guy that found one little baby cat?

It was so little, it never had hair, and it’s eyes were closed.

The man bottle fed the baby cat.

It was so pretty, it would purr when he held it close to him.

As it grew, he never noticed certain things, he was blinded to them.

One day his baby cat got mad at him and it turned and sprayed him.

It was not cat, it was a skunk!

No matter how much you love the cat, you cannot change it from a skunk.

5. ARE YOU STEALING FROM GOD?

We have many people stealing from God.

God knows how to avenge His.

Trust Him! Trust Him?

Revenge is not yours, quit stealing.

Revenge is like stealing money bags from the bank.

These money bags, when stolen have red paint explosives in them.

As you run away, you get what you stole, but the red paint explodes

and covers all the money, and the red paint will cover you.

Bang, you are caught.

6. REVENGE WILL BECOME THE DRIVING FORCE.

Remember Ahab in Moby Dick?

Ahab had an accident while fishing for whales.

The rope wrapped around his leg, and the great force cut his leg off.

For the rest of his life he would limp and have trouble walking.

The loss of his leg was not the problem, he had a worse problem than that.

He let his crazy hatred become the driving force in life.

He hated every man with two legs, he hated whales, he hated his ship, he hated his job.

This "holy" hatred became the driving force in his everyday living.

Hatred never ceases hatred.

Force, fear, unforgiveness, anger, and revenge are poor motivators and

the choice to journey on with hatred dictating his actions would have terrible consequences.

Seems hatred breeds hatred.

Hatred became the most maddening and biggest torments that stirred up the words and actions of Ahab.

All truth with hatred and unforgiveness and malice and revenge destroys the creative power of the brain and spirit.

All of life and thought that reaches downward from rage, from Adam to you, destroys.

Remember Herman Melville’s Moby Dick?

There is a great lesson of the downward journey many men choose.

One day Ahab had one more opportunity with the great whale, MOBY DICK.

Ahab never found the mystery part of life,

Ahab focused on the mess part of life.

His choices had consequences that ruined his daily life and ended his life so uselessly.

Ahab could have been a good captain.

Ahab was smarter than Moby Dick, just his anger got in the way.

Who was Moby Dick, the man or the whale?

Moby Dick never won, no, never... Ahab lost!

Revenge is not yours.

You are a thief and a stealer if you are playing a game of revenge.

Don’t forget: CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Why can’t we trust the purpose of the Most High?

We learn how to lick every pain and offense.

We nurse it and grow it?

Have you ever tried to see the world from the worms vantage point?

Of course, we know a worm sees a lot of dirt.

The worm probably thinks the whole world is dirt?

Maybe one day, a bird flies down and picks up the worm to take it to the babies in the nest.

On the way the worm sees, well, the whole world is not dirt, this is cool flying.

Then the momma bird drops the worm to the babies, I guess it seems all is doomed? Dirt or food?

I was at Cova Morgan’s house in Harrogate, TN.

I was in college.

It was spring?

Cova’s wife, Lola asked me, Why do flowers grow up?

I was in college, but I couldn’t answer that?

Cova’s little girl, Cindy said I know, I know -- Why flowers grow upward.

I said, Well, tell us Cindy!

Cindy Morgan said, Flowers grow up to get their faces out of the dirt!

Today, Cindy travels around the world singing Contemporary Gospel music,

but she knew the answer.

I must grow and get my face out of the dirt.

8. HOW MANY ARE ALREADY MARKED?

Many worry about the Mark of the Beast?

Why not take heed to some of the things that will mark you?

Job 10:14 If I sin Thou markest me,

and Thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.

9. I HAVE A POISON IVY THEORY,

If you are allergic to poison ivy learn to identify the plant and stay away from it.

Better yet, stay away from where it grows if possible.

Paul knew this theory.

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses

contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned, AND AVOID THEM.

I WILL GLADLY REPAY YOU TUESDAY?

Sin and strife become heavy weights that will eventually sink the ship.

Anger, revenge and contention are all poisonous cousins.

The interest rate will destroy any sound person.

Flee!
