Meditation

Philippians 4:8

Testimonies from last week’s exercise

There are three essential things for a person to grow up healthy. (We want to be healthy, don’t we?)

(Ask)

Food

Exercise

Rest

These must be kept in balance.

The Vitamin – Meditation

A. Meditation simply means to “think” or “contemplate”.

But more specifically for the Christian it means to think about God, His Word, and our relationship to Him.

Is there ever at time that you just sit down and think.

B.Meditation can involve prayer.

-As you think you talk to the Lord about things.

The Bible Tells us to think about certain things.

Philippians 4:8

C. Mediation doesn’t usually just happen; we have to make time for it.

-We are so busy

-We have so many distractions (TV, work, etc)

D.Meditation helps us grow…

Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God:

Psalms 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with

your own heart upon your bed, and be still.

Psalms 143:5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.

-Muse – to think about

-Amuse – to disengage the mind

E. What do we meditate about?

-God Himself. Psalm 63:5-6

-God’s word. Joshua 1:8

Psalms 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

-God’s works

Psalms 77:12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

1.In our meditation, we should pray.

-Most of the verses in the Psalms that speak of

meditation, all speak of calling upon the Lord.

2.In mediation we should praise the Lord.

3.In meditation we should prepare ourselves for serving the Lord.

Conclusion: I think if believes spent time meditating on The Lord, on His Word and on our relationship with Him, we would see more growth and stronger Christians

Exercise:

-Set aside some time.

-Think on the Lord Himself.

-Think on a particular passage of Scripture. (Psalms/Proverbs) (find a particular Psalm)

-As you do, Praise Him, and pray.

Rest: There is a rest in mediation
