“3 Important Days”

Hebrews 3:7-19

Dr. Steven G. Cook

I. Introduction

A. Read Text – Hebrews 3:7-19

B. There are 3 uses of the word “DAY” in the Word of God:

1. 24-hour period of time (Gen. 1:5,8,13,19,23,31)

2. Portion of a 24-hour period of time (Gen. 1:5)

3. Indefinite period of time (John 9:4 – “work while it is day”)

C. The “Day of the Lord”, for instance refers, to the Tribulation Period- a 7-year period of suffering.

D. Notice our text – In verses 7, 13, and 15 the word “To Day” is capitalized.

E. WHY? Because To Day literally means “This to the Day”.

F. God is referring to an “Opportune Period of Time” that is “indefinite”.

G. Let us look at 3 Important Days in the Word of God.

II. The Day of Opportunity (Heb. 3:7;13;15)

A. Three (3) times To Day (Opportune Time) time is mentioned in this

passage.

B. Three (3) times there is Danger mentioned in connection with it.

C. The danger is “A HARDENED HEART” that is the result of “NOT

accepting Christ as Savior TODAY!”

D. Read – 1 Timothy 4:2 (“having their conscience seared with a hot

iron.

E. What causes a “hard heart”? There are 3 Things in particular:

1. SIN – unconfessed sin festers and putrifies the soul.

2. PASSING OF TIME – impatience (Isa. 40:31)

3. UNBELIEF – notice v. 17 – They were dead BEFORE they hit the ground.

F. My friend, 2 Cor. 6:2 states, “Behold, NOW is the accepted time;

Behold, NOW is the DAY of Salvation.”

III. The Day of Prophecy (Heb. 10:19-25)

A. 1 out of every 25 verses of the Word of God has to do with the 2nd

Coming of Jesus Christ.

B. However, there is a DAY prophesied to come 7 years prior to this

great 2nd Coming of Christ to rule upon the earth for 1,000 years.

C. Of course, this Day is called the RAPTURE by most Christians.

D. Did YOU know that the Lord Jesus Christ could come To Day?

E. Read – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Cor. 15:51-58

F. There are many fallacies of teaching in regard to Heb. 10:25.

G. Many use this verse to challenge believers to come to church.

H. This verse does not refer to a Sunday, nor doe it refer to a Service.

I. There are 2 Things the New Testament Church did not have:

1. A New Testament

2. A Church

J. The believers to whom Paul is writing are scattered & scared.

K. Paul is actually talking about not forsaking the doctrine or teaching of the Rapture (Assembly of Saints).

L. He was encouraging these believers who were hurting in this present evil world…The Day of the Rapture will be a glorious, blessing to all who believe.

M. 1 Thess. 4:18 – Paul wrote, “Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.”

N. The scattered, suffering saints of the Book of Hebrews were encouraged by Paul to consider the Day of Rapture.

IV. The Day of Accountability (2 Tim. 1:16-18; 4:6-8)

A. There are 3 Reasons I Talk to Myself:

1. I like to talk to an intelligent person

2. I like to hear an intelligent person talk

3. I always get the answer I like

B. There is coming a DAY when ALL will give an Account of Himself to God.

C. Read – 1 Cor. 3:11-15; 2 Cor. 5:10-11; Rom. 14:12

D. In 2 Tim. 1:18 we find that “That Day” refers to the Judgment Seat of Christ (for believers only).

E. Brother or Sister, ARE YOU READY for that DAY?

F. There is another Judgment for the LOST – Rev. 20:11-15

G. Remember sinner friend; To Day is a day of opportunity for YOU!

H. Why NOT believe on the LORD Jesus Christ & Be Saved!
