We Call Him Savior
"And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s."...And from there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He was unwilling for anyone to know about it. For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later." Mark 8:31-33; 9:30-31

I. Peter’s Rebuke
What it must have been for the disciples to hear these words for the first time.
Matthew- tax collector, accepted
Simon- zealot
Andrew, James, John- fishermen fishers of men
Peter- hardest hit, common man, worked a routine- 8-5 type
till one day
decision that would change his life forever
Christ’s inner circle
-only three disciples: witnessed Jarius’s daughter raised
witnessed Transfiguration of Christ
were closest to Christ in Gethsemane
Would become intimate, personal friend of Jesus
For Peter to hear these word’s was more than he could handle.
It dashed his expectations.
But Christ laid it out plainly
"And He was stating the matter plainly." (NASB
"He said this simply and clearly so they couldn’t miss it." (TM)

John 8:34 Jesus said, "Everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin."

"He maid Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." 2 Corinthians 5:21
Savior- one who saves, redeems
"I am the good shepherd, The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." John 10:11
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

C. The Result
"Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For he who has died is freed from sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. III Our Response
"If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the baby, but forget His purpose.
We celebrate Jesus because He is our Savior.
