HOW THE BIBLE DESCRIBES OUR SALVATION
"Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." Jude, verse 3.
I. A COMMON SALVATION: (text)
It is called common because it is universally available. We have to begin this thought with John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
To which we will add: “And the Spirit and the bride [the church] say, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.” Revelation 22:17.
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.” Titus 2:11.
II. SO GREAT A SALVATION:
"How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him." Hebrews 2:3.
What makes our salvation “so great”?
1. What it saves us from (our sin: “the wages of sin is death”).
2. What it saves us to (fellowship with God in this life: “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another” ).
3. What it saves us for (a divine inheritance: “heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ”).
III. AN ABUNDANT SALVATION:
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior.” Titus 3:5-6.
IV. A COSTLY SALVATION:
"None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him—for the redemption of their souls is costly.” Psalm 49:7-8.
Our salvation was purchased at inestimable cost: “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7.
V. AN ETERNAL SALVATION:
“And having been perfected, He became the Author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” Hebrews 5:9.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My Hand.” John 10:27-28.
