Say No To Sickness

How to Receive Your Healing

I. Introduction

Barney wore coke-bottle glasses and a perfect bowl haircut. He knew the answers to everything and was the teacher’s pet. This really ticked everybody off.

One day, after an uncharacteristic absence from school, Barney showed up in class with a big grin on his face, wearing a goofy-looking Mickey Mouse hat. The teacher asked Barney where he got the hat.

“I went to Disneyland yesterday!” he said excitedly.

“Oh really,” said the teacher. “Why don’t you tell us about your trip to Disneyland.”

“Okay! Well, I got to Disneyland and the first thing I saw was the parking lot,” Barney said. “That parking lot must hold about a million cars! I got on a tram that carried me around the parking lot until I got to the place where you buy the tickets. So I got off and stood in line. I bought a ticket and I also bought this cool hat!”

“And then what did you do?” asked the teacher.

“Well, I got back on the tram and rode around the parking lot some more,” said Barney. “That was really fun! I rode that tram all day!”

“All day?” asked the teacher. “Did you go through the turnstiles and under the bridge to Main Street USA, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and the rest of the park?”

Barney thought for a moment and said, “No. Was I supposed to?”

When a lot of people get saved, they don’t understand all that’s included in the ticket. Well, being saved isn’t just about going to heaven. Tonight we’re going to talk about one of the “extras” that’s included in your ticket. Let’s talk about “Saying No to Sickness,” how to receive your healing. The first way that you can receive your healing is by knowing that it is indeed yours.

II. Healing Is Yours

Isaiah 53:4-5 “Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (pains); Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

Have you ever laid out of school because you were “too sick to go?” Yep, I have, too. Has anybody ever faked being sick? Yeah, put the thermometer under the lamp when mom walks out of the room. She comes back in and your temperature is 105. You’re ALMOST dead! Then mom finds out you’re faking and you are really dead!

Well, if you’ve been sick before and stayed out of school because of it, you really didn’t have a clue that healing was yours. Because if you knew that healing belonged to you, you would have gone to school.

Because we know we are healed, we refuse to allow sickness into our bodies. We act on what we know. We know we are healed, therefore we act healed. Well people do not lay in bed all day and stay out of school or work. They get up and act on the WORD! The word says you’re healed, so act healed.

III. The Powerful Name of Jesus

Acts 3:16 “And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.”

Excerpt from Smith Wigglesworth on Healing:

Six people went into the house of a sick man to pray for him. He was a leader in the Episcopal Church, and he lay in his bed utterly helpless. He had read a little tract about healing and had heard about people praying for the sick. So he sent for these friends, who, he thought, could pray “the prayer of faith.” He was anointed according to James 5:14, but because he had no immediate manifestation of healing, he wept bitterly. The six people walked out of the room.

When they were outside, one of the six said, “There is one thing we could have done. I wish you would all go back with me and try it.” They all went back and got together in a group. This brother said, “Let us whisper the name of Jesus.” At first, when they whispered this worthy name, nothing seemed to happen. But as they continued to whisper “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” the power began to fall. As they saw that God was beginning to work, their faith and joy increased, and they whispered the name louder and louder. As they did so, the man rose from his bed and dressed himself. The secret was just this: those six people had gotten their eyes off the sick man and were taken up with the Lord Jesus Himself. Their faith grasped the power in His name.

There is POWER in the name of Jesus. At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth. That’s EVERY knee. The knees of humans and demons and devils alike. There is power in His name. So much power that sickness has to leave at the mention of it.

IV. Prayer

John 16:23-24 “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

Matthew 18:19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”

There’s an idea. If you’re sick, pray the prayer of faith. Pray the prayer of agreement with someone. Ask and you will receive.

A friend of mine was living with us for a few months until he could get a job and find a place of his own. During this time he got terribly sick. He thought he had pneumonia, and he was coughing his head off and laying on the couch all day, shivering. Well, one day Kristen was at my house and she saw Tommy laying there and she asked him, “Has anybody prayed for you?” And he said, “Well, no.” So Kristen prayed for him. The next day he was all better, no coughing, no laying on the couch covered up shivering—completely healed!

Pray. God will answer your prayer.

V. Anointing With Oil

James 5:14 “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.”

Alright, anointing with oil. To anoint means to rub into or smear into. When a person is anointed with oil, the oil is usually placed on the tip of the minister’s finger and touched to the forehead of the sick person. They’re not taking the oil on the palm of their hand and grounding it into somebody’s head.

The oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The oil isn’t any type of medicine or magic potion. It is symbolic of the consecration of the sick person and the joyous presence of the Holy Spirit. James stresses God’s healing power through prayer that accompanies the anointing.

We see here in this Scripture that it isn’t merely the anointing with oil that causes the healing. It’s prayer and it’s the name of Jesus, as well.

VI. The Gifts of Healings

1 Corinthians 12:9 “To another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit.”

So that the church’s mission might not be limited to the abilities of mere human enterprise, the Holy Spirit provides specially designed, distributed, and energized gifts. Among these gifts of the Spirit are “gifts of healings.”

Now, the gifts of healings refers to supernatural healing without human aid. Often the gifts of healings are accompanied by the gift of faith and of working of miracles. Because many times, for a person to be healed through the gifts of healings, he must have a supernatural ability to believe God without doubt. And the working of miracles literally means a display of power giving the ability to go beyond the natural.

So, if someone has cancer and has been diagnosed terminally ill, which means he’s going to die and there’s nothing humanly possible that the doctors could do for him. Well, it would be a miracle for this man to live. So, when he comes into a church service where the gifts of the Spirit are in operation, the minister calls him forth and prays for him, he is miraculously healed. That’s the gifts of healings and working of miracles working together.

VII. Laying On Of Hands

Mark 16:17-18 “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

And these signs will follow who? Those who believe…believers! How many believers are in here tonight? You can lay hands on the sick and expect them to recover.

Brother Hagin tells about a man in the 1940’s who had a greater reputation in Texas for getting people healed than ministers of the Gospel in that part of the country. His name was Brother F. Here is his story. “In those early days, we didn’t have any organization in Pentecostal circles. When we were without a pastor, we didn’t know where to get one. During those times, if some of the congregation got sick, they’d call for us deacons, because we were the leaders. I would go anoint them with oil and lay hands on them—and folks got healed. Well, there was a medical doctor in this area, and a number of patients he’d given up to die were healed through our prayers. Then his wife came down with cancer. He put her on the train and sent her to specialists in New York City, but they sent her home to die. They couldn’t do anything for her.

So the doctor—he was Presbyterian—invited my wife and me to come pray for her, because he knew our prayers got results. We shared Scripture with the doctor’s wife, anointed her with oil, and she was completely healed of terminal cancer. I don’t have any kind of calling or anointing. I’m just a farmer. Just of a fifth grade education. But I believe the Bible. I read there, ‘These signs shall follow them that believe…they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.’”

This guy was just a believer, and when he laid hands on the sick, they recovered!

Laying on of hands must be done according to the spiritual law of Contact and Transmission. When you lay hands on someone, there is a point of contact—that’s the point when they release their faith and start believing for healing. Then there is a transmission of the anointing, which is the power of God. Don’t lay hands on someone until you’re ready to release your faith, otherwise, it’s just a ritual. Don’t let anyone lay hands on you until you’re ready to release your faith.

Now, as I’ve been teaching about healing, your faith’s been growing. With every Scripture I’ve read, your faith has risen up. Now I’m going to ask you to act on that faith. If you have any form of sickness or disease in your body, I want you to get up and come down to the front and I’m going to lay hands on you and you’ll be healed. Now, you may have seen people fall when hands have been laid on them. But I’ll tell you, you may fall, you may not. You don’t have to fall to receive from God. If the power of God makes you fall, then great, you’ve felt the power in a tangible form. If not, that’s fine, too. You will still be healed. So, come now, if you want me to lay hands on you for your healing.
