A Sermon For You

A Ministry of Huckaby’s Evangelism

Today’s Sermon Title

The Words Of Jesus Christ

By-Evangelist Gary Huckaby

(Preached At Antioch Baptist Church Woodbury, Georgia 8-24-2003)

Text; Mark 13:31; Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

How many people have been helped by the words of Jesus Christ?

Think of the number of times that preachers have used John 14:1-3, to comfort those who have lost a love one to death.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3.

Think of the heartbroken who have been helped by the words of Jesus Christ in John 14:18; I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Think of the untold multitude who has found salvation in the words of Jesus Christ from John 3:16; For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

How many weary souls have found rest in the words of Jesus Christ from Matthew 11:28-30; Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

To the hungry Jesus is The Bread of Life!

To the thirsty He is the Living Water To the Bereaved He is The Resurrection and The Life.

To the wandering He is The Way!

(1) His First Words

Often when children are born, each parent attempts to get the child to say, mama, or daddy. I know of one fellow who was found in his back yard saying into a steel drum, "daddy, daddy." He wanted to hear the sound of a child to his father by the echo of his own words. What hope of a parent.

Jesus had first words. We do not know all of His first words as a child, but we do have His first words of His earthly ministry given to us from the Bible.

His first words in the Gospel of Matthew are; Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Mark 1:14-15.

Jesus first words in Matthew are "The time is fulfilled," "The kingdom of God is at hand," "REPENT YE" And "Believe the Gospel." Jesus says to the sinner, "Repent ye and believe the gospel."

His first words in Mark are; Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. Matthew 3:13-15.

Jesus had come to John the Baptist to be Baptized by Him, this would set the pattern for all believers who followed Jesus after salvation. Baptize Me!

The first words of Jesus Christ in Luke’s Gospel were;

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? Luke 2:49.

Jesus first words in Luke are in a question to His parents. Jesus at age twelve had gone to the temple with Joseph and His mother Mary. They left to go home, but Jesus stayed behind at the temple talking to the doctors and of the temple. After realizing Jesus was not a part of the family as they traveled home, they turned to go back and get Him. It took them three days to finally find Jesus in the temple. 2:38; His mother ask Him Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. Jesus answered her with these first words in Luke, I must be about my Father’s business? verse 49.

Jesus Christ first words in the Gospel of John were;

Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? John 1:38 These words are words to lost sinners. Who are you looking for to save you? What seek Ye? They were seeking Him. When you seek for Him, you will surely find Him.

(2) His Last Words

In Matthew His last words are;

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20. Go! Teach all nations about me.

In Mark’s Gospel His last words are;

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Again here He tells us to Go! and preach the Gospel to every creature.

In the Gospel of Like Jesus last words are;

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Power is coming to you from on High!

From the Gospel of John we see His last words are;

This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. John 21:19. Follow Me! Are you a follower of Jesus Christ?

(3) His Next Words

What do you think that Jesus will say next to the Church? They are in the Scriptures if you know where to find them. Look with me at the epistle of 1Thessalonians 4:16; For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

His next words will be a shout. And what will the shout be? Look now to the book of Revelation 4:1; After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

When the Lord Jesus comes for His Church to take us out of this world, He will stop in the clouds and call out to His Bride to "Come Here!" Those are going to be His next words heard on this earth. Then will begin the tribulation period upon this earth that the world has never seen the likes of. The last three and a half years is called the great tribulation, and it will be a time of suffering as has never been. Salvation of ones soul will mean death to the believer during these dark days.

In John 11, We can find the story of Lazarus, a friend of Jesus. Lazarus is sick unto death, and he dies. Jesus is sent for while Lazarus is sick, before his death, but the Bible says that Jesus lingered for several days before coming to Bethany. Lazarus sister Martha, runs to meet Jesus and tells Him of her brothers death, and He assures her that Lazarus would rise again. Lazarus sister Mary who had stayed home was told that Jesus was there, and that He had called for her and as soon as she heard this she got up quickly and went to Him. Mary falls at Jesus feet, "saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died." When Jesus saw her tears and those about her crying; "He groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go." John 11:34-44.

If Jesus had not called Lazarus name, every body in the grave would have obeyed His words. And notice too, when Lazarus came forth he was still bound in the grave clothes. So how can a man wound in cloth walk? He didn’t he floated out of the grave, he was raptured out of the tome just as we shall be raptured out of this world at His coming for His Bride, The Church.

His next words will be Come Here! Rise from the world my children.

(4) His Present Words

What do you think would be Jesus words to us today in this service? I believe that He would quote Matthew 11:28’s words again; "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Maybe He would use the words He gave to the apostle Paul found in Romans 10:13; For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.. He could well use His own words found in John 3:18, and 36. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Verse 36, He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

His words to us right now are salvation is free to all. Any who come for salvation through Jesus Christ will be saved. Are you? Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour today?

Revelation 22:17; And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Whosoever will may come to Christ for eternal salvation.

(5) His Most Important Words For Us

I believe that the most important words are for His believers to say today. Those who know Him as Saviour. To us His most important words are;

Revelation 21:20; He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Surely I Come Quickly!

When things of life seem so difficult, I Come Quickly! When all around you is in turmoil He says, Surely I Come Quickly! When you feel all alone, and you are about to give up, He says, I Come Quickly!

Some golden daybreak, Jesus will come, Some golden daybreak, battles all won, He’ll shout the victory, break thro’ the blue. Some golden daybreak, for me, for you.

One Sunday evening years ago, I left my home to go to our evening services at the Church where I was then Pastor. Only myself, and my little eight year old son was there. No one showed up that Sunday evening, as the weather was quite stormy. We waited until about 7:20 and told my boy that we might as well go home; that the storm must have kept anyone from coming to the service. He looked up at me and said, "Daddy I am here." I preached the message that night that the Lord gave to me for the service, and at the sermons end I did as I always have, I gave an invitation for any to come to Christ. That night my son, the only one present with me, gave his heart and life to the Saviour. What if I had missed that service. What if I had gone home that stormy night? My son might still be lost. But God showed us His Power and Grace that night as 100% of my congregation came to Him for salvation.

You can come to Him today. He wants to save you more than you could ever want to be saved. Won’t you come to Him right now! Receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour right now!
