THE MESSAGE

GIVE THANKS WITH A GRATEFUL HEART

*********************************

1.PRESENCE

We must give thanks for God’s presence in our lives. The Lord has never left us or forsook us. People may have deserted us when we needed them. But the Lord has been with us at all times and in all situations. His presence has given us peace and rest. Christ lives in us and He is the hope of glory . Without the presence of God our lives would be meaningless and miserable. We must always be grateful for the presence of God in our lives. His presence with us makes all the difference in every situation that we face.

At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.

But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Exodus 33:14

The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

Colossians 1 : 27

To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

2.PROTECTION

We must give thanks for God’s protection in our lives. We are not destroyed because of His mercies. There are so many dangers and hidden snares in this world and yet God has protected us so far. We must realise that it is God’s protection that has kept us alive so far. We must remember the dangerous situations that we have faced in the past and how God protected us and be grateful to Him. The Lord has watched over us constantly and protected us.

indeed, he who watches over will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;

the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

3.PROVISION

We must give thanks for God’s provision in our lives. The Lord has been faithful to meet our needs. He has provided food , clothes and shelter to us which are considered the basic needs of mankind. In addition to these He has provided us so many blessings such as education and material comforts for which we must be thankful. We must learn to trust in the Lord for the supply of all our needs. Then we need not fear the future as the Lord is able to meet our needs even in difficult times.

Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.

4.PEOPLE

We must give thanks for the people whom God has given in our lives such as parents , relatives , friends , colleagues , neighbours etc. We have received so much joy and favour through the people whom God has brought in our lives. We should not fret over the evil we have experienced through some bad people. Rather we should be thankful for all the wonderful people who have been a great blessing to us.

We should not be grumbling about our job and be complaining about the difficulties that we face in our workplace. Instead we should thank God for the job that He has given to us and strive to fulfil our responsibilities faithfully. We must do our work sincerely as unto the Lord and not as unto men.Then the Lord will bless us and promote us to greater heights just as He did for Joseph in the Old Testament.

Colossians 3:22-24

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,

6.PERIOD

We must give thanks for the period in which God has allowed us to live. We are living in historic and glorious days. God is pouring out His Spirit around the world . We have wonderful opportunities today to know God intimately and grow in His knowledge and Grace . Such privileges were not available in days gone by and in earlier centuries. We must be grateful to God for allowing us to live in these last days.

Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

7.PROMISE

We must give thanks to God for the promise of eternal life that He has given to us. We are blessed not only during our life on earth but we are given the glorious hope of spending eternity with God in heaven. Our life on earth is like an aeroplane speeding down the runway before taking off into a glorious eternity . This world is not our home . Our citizenship is in heaven. We are just taking a short ride on the runway of life before God takes us into the eternal happiness of heaven. We must be grateful for this wonderful promise of eternal life which the Lord has given to us. We must not allow the pursuit of earthly blessings to leave us unprepared for eternity.

And I’ll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." ’

"But God said to him, ’You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
