Summary: The saying "You can’t go home again" is not true when speaking spiritually.

There is a saying: “You can’t go back home again.” But in this parable Jesus tells us of a young man who did indeed go home. After a long and grueling absence from his father he finally made his way homeward.

You too can come back home—no matter how long you’ve been away; no matter how far down you’ve been. But to come back home there are some things you will have to do.

I. You Will Have to Come to Some Realizations.

A. As long as you are away from the Father’s House, there will be nothing but emptiness and heartaches. V. 14.

B. All your efforts to fill the emptiness will be useless—v. 16.

C. Doing nothing will only lead you farther away and farther down. V. 18

II. You Will Have to Arise. V.18. (Stand up, get up)

A. Get up from where you are.

B. Get tired of where you’ve been.

C. Stop hoping things will improve while doing nothing to make them do so.

III.You Will Have to Come Back to the Father.—v. 20ff.

A. Back to the One who has never stopped loving you.

B. Back to the One who has never stopped looking for you.

C. Back to the One who has His arms wide open for you.

YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN AND TODAY IS YOUR DAY. DON’T SPEND ANOTHER MINUTE IN THE HOG PEN OF SIN—COME BACK TO THE FATHERS’ HOUSE, HE’LL LEAVE THE LIGHT ON FOR YOU.
