Summary: Through the storms and adveristiy in life how do you handle these things? How do others see you?

IS JESUS IN YOUR BOAT?

Mark 4:35-39

On that day, when evening came, He said to them, "Let us go over to the other side."

Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him.

And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up.

Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"

And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Hush, be still." And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.

v.35- “Let us cross over to the other side

”Here is a direction/course that Jesus gave His disciples. The Word of God is also filled direction and a course for you to follow and with many promises for you. But first you need to grab a hold of God’s Word.

Through times of trials God will direct you and fulfill His promises in you and through you. The important thing here is that you must believe what He said is for you. And the other thing is to remember what He has said.

2 Cor. 1:20 “For all the promises of God in Him, are Yes and in Him Amen.

v. 36 …other little boats were also with Him.”

When we are going through trials there will be others around us that will see how we react to adversity.

1. How do you react to the storms of life that can rise up and flood your boat?

2. I wonder also how those other passengers in the “other” boats were reacting to the storm?

3. I wonder if they too thought they were going to die also?

v. 38 “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”

Lets be honest here…as Christians we can all have this momentary time of insanity where you look up at the sky and say; “God don’t you know or care what I am going through!! Have you ever wondered if God was sleeping?”

Ps. 121:3 “He who keeps you will not slumber”

I know that a lot of you have gone through some kind of rough storms and major trials in your lifetime. And if your

human, you have spoken those words aloud or to yourself at one time or another.

I want to show you briefly another person who was in a boat and wondered when there was going to be relief

Lets take a quick look at Noah…

Noah was told by God to build an ark; gather pairs of animals; load up his family. The rain came-the earth flooded…

So here we have Noah all locked up in an ark with his family & many animals. That to me is a trial in itself. That ark was floating around for 150 days. I am also sure Noah’s wife wanted some straight answers like;

“When is this going to end?” or “Are we there yet?” as kids often say to their parents in a long car ride. Or the best one yet…”has God said anything to you yet?”

Gen 8:1

Then God remembered Noah ……And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided

Look at what it says, “God remembered Noah”

We look at our watch and we say God I think its time that you do something about all of this. God does not work on our watch; we would like for Him to…

The Lord Jesus promises He will never leave us nor forsake us

If you are a born again believer who has Jesus Christ living inside of you, you are not alone in this storm and Jesus is in that boat along with you.

v.39 “Peace be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm

Philippians 4:7 tells us that as believers and followers of Christ He gives us a peace that surpasses all of our understanding.

So through those times when it seems that your boat will capsize you need to trust that God will speak peace into your situation. He can also make those troubled waters subside for you as He did for Noah.

If you have never experienced the peace of God in your life, the peace that can quiet the storm. I implore that you take the time to ask the Lord to come into your heart and to help you through this time of trial that you may be facing.
