Walking Across Impossibilities Part Two
Through Faith, Your Impossible Situation Can Become Possible
Exodus 2:11-15
In our previous lesson, we learned that the children of Israel were in an impossible situation; under bondage and hard taskmasters. There seemed to be no way out of this situation. And, instead of getting better, things began to grow worse and worse. The king called on the midwives to kill all the Hebrew male babies. However, God was raising up a deliverer, His chosen deliverer to lead His children out of bondage. This chosen deliverer was Moses.
Moses was born around 1526 B.C., apparently during the time when this law was put into effect! We can imagine the stress, the devastation Moses’ parents must have felt during the pregnancy. What would happen to their child? Once again, we see an impossible situation, don’t we? Let’s read Exodus 2:1-2:
“And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.”
And, after three months, she....“took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him” (Exodus 2:3,4). KJV
This mother had faith in God didn’t she? And, God not only protected her child but also provided a way for her to nurse him, and watch him grow!
If you have faith in God.... trust and believe Him for everything... not just the big things.. but everything in your life... you can walk across impossible situations! No matter how bad things seem in your life.... don’t quit... don’t give up.
Listen: There was a time in my life when I thought: “Everything is going wrong in my life, and things cannot get worse.” Listen: They got worse and worse. I had a flat tire on my old car... had it repaired, then got on the interstate and had another flat tire. Listen: I only had about ten dollars in my wallet! So, what was I do? This was an impossible situation. I was on my way to work, and had been warned not to be late again. Yet, here I was... no spare tire, and very little money. Indeed, things did get worse. I didn’t have a cell phone, and the nearest service station was over ten miles away! I sat in my automobile, staring into space, doing nothing for over an hour.
“Why move from this spot?,” I thought. “I’ve already lost my job, and with no job I couldn’t pay rent or buy food. What’s the use in trying?”
Perhaps, you are either in a situation like this or have been in one. Everything appears impossible, and you don’t know what to do. Listen: Trust God through this impossible situation! Praise Him and believe that it is already done!
Listen: I lost my job....but... I got a better one! It didn’t happen overnight... it took faith...patience and faith that God would work everything out. I had to learn a lesson in patience... a lesson on not doing things my way but waiting on God.
Don’t Attempt to Do Things Your Way...Wait On God
Background on Moses: Moses was reared in the household of Pharaoh by the Egyptian princess with, I believe all the luxuries and royalties at his fingertips. If you would turn to Acts 7:22 we will see that Moses was also skilled in the Egyptian knowledge and wisdom.
Acts 7:22:
“And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians,
and was mighty in words and in deeds.”
At the young age of forty, Moses perhaps, had already developed the potentials of a great leader, a likely candidate for a future Pharaoh. Perhaps, Moses knew that he was a leader, or believed he was God’s chosen deliverer. However, in flesh, he took it upon himself to do things his way. Let’s go to Exodus 2:11:
“And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that
he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and
he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.”
Watch this: Apparently, Moses knew he was wrong in carrying in what he was about to do, for the Bible says he, “looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand” (Exodus 2:12). KJV
Listen: Although, Moses was God’s chosen deliverer, he attempted through self to bring this deed to pass. This was not what God had in mind. We must learn to have patience, and wait on God.
Let’s see what happened. Let’s go to verses 13-15:
“And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the
Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong,
Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? And he said, Who made thee
a prince and a judge over us? Intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst
the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But
Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian:
and he sat down by a well.”
This is a lesson to be learned in patience, and waiting on the Lord for deliverance, for leading us across impossible situations, isn’t it? If you want God to work things out for you....have faith in Him... believe and trust God ... and wait. Listen: You could be at the point of your breakthrough... it could be today... tomorrow or it could be much longer. Remember: You can walk across impossible situations if you have faith in God!
