WHO IS THIS MAN (part 4)

“His Name Is El Roi”

SERIES TEXT: Hebrews 3:1

INTRODUCTION – If we are going to build a confidence in the principle and process of confession, we must build a confidence in the person of our confession. We must consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus. The Greek word for profession is the same as the Greek word for confession, “homologeo.” A profession is what we do for income. As believers, confession is what we do to cause what is in heaven to come into the earth. Our profession is confession. Christ Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. He is the Word of God (John 1:1-3, & 14) and He is the God of the Word (Heb 1:8-12). In order to learn to trust in His word, we must learn to trust Him. To learn to trust Him, we must get to know Him more. We must get to know Him more, that we may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings (Phil 3:10). We should want to know Him more that we may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge (Eph 3:18-19). God wants us to know more about His power and His personality, His authority and His ability, His conduct and His character so He introduces us to different facets of His nature by introducing Himself to different people at different times in different situations by different names. We learned in the previous message that His name is Elohim. The prefix “El” means “strong and mighty one” and the suffix “im” means plural. Elohim is the strong and mighty God of creation and He’s also the three-in-one God. The first book of the bible shows us that God is three dimensional because creation is three dimensional. The last book of the bible shows us that God is three dimensional because the Revelation 4:8 says the angels cry “Holy” (one for the Father), “holy” (one for the Son), “holy” (one for the Holy Ghost). Elohim is Father, Son, and Holy Ghost and these three are one (1 Jn 5:7). He’s the God of creation, re-creation, and restoration. After the devil has done his very worst, Elohim can then do His very best. He’s the God that helps us to start again. Next we learned that His name is also El Shaddia, the God of the much more, the God of good an plenty, the God that is able to exceed your need. El Shaddia is the God of multiplication that wants to multiply thee spiritually, financially, socially and numerically. El Shaddia is the God ministry. He’s able to make you able. Today, we’ll get to know a little more about God. His name is El Roi.

MESSAGE TEXT: Genesis 16:6-14

The backdrop of the text is that Abram and Sarai were waiting for what God had promised them, a son. In an effort to speed up the process, Sarai came up with the idea of allowing Abram and her handmaid, Hagar, to conceive a child together. The Bible says that because Hagar was able to conceive when Sarai could not, that Hagar despised Sarai. Sarai then dealt hardly with Hagar so Hagar ran away into the wilderness. There, Hagar had an encounter with El Roi. El Roi is the strong and mighty God who sees and watches over me.

1. El Roi is the God who sees. He sees what’s wrong around me (Proverbs 15:3). He sees my situation. He sees my circumstance. God saw how Sarai treated Hagar after Hagar tried to “help Sarai out.” God saw what was happening with Hagar. He’s the God that sees what’s wrong around me. “Well, if He sees what’s wrong around me, maybe He doesn’t know how it makes me feel. Maybe He doesn’t hear the cries of my heart.”

2. El Roi is the God who hears. He sees what’s wrong with me; the depression, the discouragement, the despair. He sees what is wrong with me and he hears the cries of my heart (1 Jn 5:16)(Ps 18:6)(Ps 40:11). Know that God sees and hears can cause us to ask the question, “Does God care?” (Mk 4:38-carest thou not that we perish?) (Luke 10:38-40 Don’t you care that no one is helping me?) El Roi is the God who sees. He’s the God who hears. He’s the God who cares. He’s the God who has felt what you are feeling. He’s been through what you are going through (Heb 4:15). “Well, if He sees what’s wrong around me and hears the cries of my heart and cares about my situation and has felt what I’m feeling, why does He let me go through what I’m going through?”

3. El Roi is the God who knows. He sees what’s wrong in me (Jer 17:9-El Roi knows it). What wrong around me is just an excuse. What’s wrong with me is just an emotion. What’s wrong in me is the real issue! God will allow some things to go wrong around me so He can show me what’s wrong in me (Gen 2:15-23, Gen 3:6-13 – Adam, Eve, and the serpent). Until I know what’s wrong in me, I won’t allow God to fix me (Ps 139:23-24)(Ps 19:12-13)(Ps 51:6-12). El Roi is the God that sees and watches over me so that nothing I go through is too much for me to bear and everything I go through is to make me better. El Roi is the God that sees, and hears, and cares, and feels and knows. He wants me to know what He knows about me so I can become more like Him.
