Summary: A Message on the Trustworthiness of God’s Word

WHY GOD’S WORD IS GREAT

Hebrews 4:12

I. GREAT BECAUSE OF ITS SOURCE (2 Timothy 3:16).

A. The Bible is God’s written word to us. God spoke to the faithful who diligently recorded his Word.

B. Some have denied the truth of God’s Word, but is has continued to stand the test of time. It is still the best-selling book.

C. False prophets have ridiculed the principles for which the Word of God stands. God’s truth still shines through the darkness like a never-failing beacon (Psalm 119:105).

D. God is the source of his Word. The Bible tells humankind of his love, hope, and assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

II. GREAT BECAUSE OF ITS COURSE (Mark 16:15).

A. Man sinned and deserved to die. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

B. To be saved we must come to God just as we are in simple, trusting faith. We must repent of our sins and believe in Christ for salvation.

C. The course of God’s Word is “into all the world.” “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

D. No one need be left out. All are included in salvation’s plan—the black and white, young and old, rich and poor, great and small.

III. GREAT BECAUSE OF ITS FORCE (Hebrews 4:12).

A. Steam power, horse power, water power, even atomic power cannot compare with the power of God’s Word. It surpasses them all.

B. God’s Word is great because of its force. Earthly power may kill and destroy, but it cannot bring peace of mind and Spirit. God spoke the universe, humankind, and all creation into existence.

C. God’s Word says, “He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him” (Hebrews 7:25).

D. The power of God’s Word reaches the lowest of the low and sets them free from the clutches of sin.
