Opening: We all have much to learn about the faith relationship that the Lord has for us. We often try to learn about faith through trial and error. Instead of directly from the Word of God.
Texts:
1. Matthew 8:5 thru 13 – the centurion’s servant
· what kind of man was the centurion?
Authority, responsibilities, commitments, compassion, humility, obedience, and faith
2. Matthew 9:18 thru 30 - the ruler’s daughter, and the woman with the issue of blood
· what kind of man was the ruler?
He understood the importance of prioritizing worship first before his own needs are met (no matter how urgent). He was patient for the needs of others first (i.e. the woman with the issue of blood).
· what kind of person was the woman with the issue of blood?
Desperate for an immediate answer.
3. Mark 2:1 thru 5 – the friend’s of the paralyzed man
· what kind of people were the “four friends?”
sincere, determined, willing to do whatever it took to help their friend, called of God, not concerned with what people might say, etc.
4. Luke 17:11 thru 19 – the ten lepers
· what did the lepers do that was so unique?
They came to Jesus as one (in unity).
· what was unique about the one leper?
His willingness and/or his being overcome to want to stay and worship Jesus for His goodness. As well, he was healed by his own faith.
5. Luke 18:35 thru 43 – the blind man (that Jesus told His disciples to bring to Him)
· what did the blind man want first from Jesus?
His mercy and forgiveness.
· what else can we see about this man?
He was determined to get Jesus’ attention. He knew that Jesus was the only hope he had left. He also knew exactly what he needed (from Jesus).
· what made the blind man whole again?
His own faith.
