NOT ENOUGH

John 6:52-71

(Devotional Series 4)

What is Chritian?

These verses seem difficult, don’t they? But they are important, because they tell us the differences between the real Christians and a sham.

You see, to be a Christian--

I. IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO HEAR CHRIST’S TEACHING.

Think about those disciples in verses 60, 64 & 66. Did they hear? Did they commit themselves?

II. IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP COMPANY WITH CHRIST.

What about that man in verses 70-71? He was one of Jesus chosen workers.

No, these things are not enough. YOU MUST EAT HIS FLESH AND DRINK HIS BLOOD. Verse 53 could be plainer, but what does it mean?

A. YOU MUST BELIEVE-- believe that His flesh and blood were given for you when He died. Look back to verse 51. You must leave your sins at the cross with Jesus.

B. YOU MUST RECEIVE-- receive Jesus Christ into your life. Jesus doesn’t mean you literally eat his body (see verse 63). He means that you take him into yourself, and his life and yours become joined into one. This union between a believer and Christ is both a miracle and a mystery. It is in the Lord’s supper that this relationship is represented and enhanced. See verse 58.

Are you one with Christ? Are you a Christian?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I take You into myself. I give You my heart and my life. May I live by Your strength today. Amen.

Keynote: Never the same again.
