Topic: Jesus Christ, Our Passover Lamb
On the eve of Israel’s exodus or deliverance out of the Egyptian slavery, God gave Moses some important instructions to tell the children of Israel to follow. The instructions that God have Moses to tell the children of Israel to follow had t do with a memorial feast that the children of Israel were to celebrate for generations to come. The memorial feast was called the Passover.
In this Passover memorial feast, on the 10th day of the first month of the year, every Jewish household were tot get a one year old lamb without blemish out from their flock of sheep. If the Jewish household was a small one, some other Jewish family had to share their lamb with that particular small Jewish family.
Now, on the 14TH day of the same first month, every Jewish household were to kill their one year old lamb. And then they were to take some of the lamb’s blood and strike it on the tow side doorpost, and on the upper side door post of their house. And they were to roast and eat the one year old lamb with unleavened bread, and with bitter herbs. No roasted lamb could be saved for left-overs from the previous night; it all had to be burned with fire the very next day.
Now, God had commanded the children of Israel to eat unleavened bread for 7 days from the 14th day to the 21st day of the first month. No leavened bread, that is, no bread with yeast in it, was to be found among them during these seven days because if there was any leavened bread found among them, God was going to cut that person or that family off from the nation of Israel. Now, it must be understood that the word “leavened”, in the New Testament termilogy, it means “sin”. You see, God wanted the children of Israel to be consecrated unto him, and to be cleansed from sin for 7 days when celebrating the Passover feast.
Now, notice that each Jewish family had to put the lamb’s blood on the 2 sides door posts, and the upper doorposts of their houses. The reason why God commanded the Israelites to put the lamb’s blood on their door posts because that very same night when the Israelites were going to be celebrating their first Passover feast, God was going to send a death angel into Egypt, and that death angel was going to kill every Egyptian first born son, including Pharoah’s first born son, which would cause him to free the children of Israel from slavery and to beg them to leave Egypt at once.
And because the death angel would see the blood on the Israelites doorposts of their houses, the death angel would passover their house, and every Israelites household would be saved from death because of the blood that was put on their doorposts of their houses.
And this Passover memorial feast was to be celebrated every year among the Israelites. And when the Jewish children would ask their Jewish parents about why they celebrated the Passover feast, the Jewish parents were to say, “because on the night before we left Egypt, a death angel passed over us, and saved us alive.”
Now, all of this was taken place during the Old Testament days. Today, we are living in the New Testament times. And because we are living in the New Testament times, we don’t have to look for a one year old lamb to kill so we can celebrate the Passover feast like children of Israelites had done in the Old Testament. The reason why we don’t to look for a one year lamb to kill to celebrate the Passover feast is because we have someone who is our Passover lamb for us and His name is Jesus Christ, who is our Passover lamb. He is our one year old lamb without spot and blemish, that is, He is a our Passover lamb who is strong and mighty, who is without any sin or without any unrightousness.
In Isaiah 53:7, the prophet Isaiah said this about Jesus Christ death on the cross before he came upon the scene. He says, “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before his shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”
In John 1:29, John the Baptist says this about Jesus Christ. He says, “Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
And the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world is no other than Jesus Christ himself.
In I Peter 1:18-19 says, “Forasmuch as ye know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
The apostle Paul says in I Corinthians 5:7 says, “For even Christ, our Passover is sacrificed for us.”
Jesus Christ is our symbolical Passover lamb, who was sacrificed and crucified on the cross for out sins. Now, just as the blood of the Old Testament lamb, which saved every Israelites from the death angel on the eve of their exodus out of Egypt, the blood of Jesus Christ saves us from and washes all of our sins away.
I John 1:7 says, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth is from all sin.”
Revelation 1:5 says, “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from all our sins in his own blood…”
Hebrews 9:22 says, “Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins.”
Without the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, there would be remission or forgiveness of sins. But since Jesus Christ has died upon the cross and shedded his precious blood on the cross for our sins, forgivenss of sins is available through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:7 says, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to riches of his grace.”
Colossians 1:14 says, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
There was a songwriter that asked this question: What can wash me and make white as snow? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! For there is power, power, wonder working power in the blood of the Lamb, which is Jesus Christ our Lord!
And because there is wonder working power in the blood of Jesus Christ, there is no sin too big that God cannot handle or forgive. No matter what you may have done, God is able to forgive you of that sin.
Psalm 103:8 says, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.”
Isaiah 1:18 says the Lord, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Isaiah 55:7 says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
In Micah 7:18-19, a question is asked: “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou will cast all of their sins into the depth of the sea.”
In the last part of Jeremiah 31:34, it says, “I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Yes, God is able to forgive us all of our sins because there is wonder working power in the blood of Jesus Christ.
Not only did Jesus Christ died upon the cross for our sins, but He also rose from the dead with all power in His hands. Jesus Christ says in Revelations 1:18 that “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and and have the keys of hell and of death.”
You see the difference between the one year old Passover lamb in the Old Testament and Jesus Christ, our symbolical Passover lamb in the New Testament is that when they killed the one year old Passover lamb in Old Testament, that was it. He was dead, and there no coming back for him. But in the New Testament, when they killed Jesus Christ, our symbolical Passover lamb, they buried him in a borrowed tomb. But in three days, Jesus rose from the dead with all power in his hands. And because he lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fears are gone. Because He lives, I know who hold the future, and life is worth the living all because He LIVES!!!!!
And if you want salvation, you need Jesus Christ
If you want eternal life, you need Jesus Christ.
If you want your sins forgiven , you need Jesus Christ
If you want a brand new life, you need Jesus Christ
If you want deliverance, you need Jesus Christ
If you want to be saved , you need Jesus Christ
Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved.”
