Summary: When feeling discouraged, put your hope and trust in God.

Psalm 42:11 & 43:5

Topic: How to beat discouragement

The word discouragement is defined as “a deprive of courage or confidence, to lessen the hope or confidence of someone, or to dishearten someone’s faith or hope in something.

All of us at one time or another have had faced discouragement one time or another. There are days when things are going so well for us, things are going so good for us that it seems nothing can go wrong for us. Then all of the sudden----BOOM!!!! All trouble seems to break loose all at once. We start having health problems, money problems, marriage problems, employment problems, family problems, emotional stress, spiritual problems, etc. Then as we try to solve the problems that we have at hand, it seems like nothing works, and you want to throw up your hands in despair, and in disgust, and that is when discouragement usually tries to set in your life. Because when you have had tried everything else to make life better for yourself, and yet everything have had failed you, that is when you start losing all hope and confidence in life, and you usually will start believing that nothing will get better for yourself.

But there is a scripture in Psalm 30:5 that says, “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life; weeping may endureth for a night; but joy comes in the morning.”

Then in Psalm 46:1, it says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

No matter how troubled your situation may look like, God is always available, and He will be right there to straighten out the problem. When everything else has failed, you ought to give Jesus Christ a try.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says to “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.

When faced with a troubled situation, instead of being discouraged, and down cast, we should always put our trust and hope in God for there is nothing too hard for God to do and He can straighten out any problem that you may have in your life.

In Genesis 18:14 asks this question: “Is there anything too hard for God?”

In Jeremiah 32:27, God asked the question again by saying, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

Is there any thing too hard for God?

Well those two question were answered in Jeremiah 32:17 where it says, “Ah Lord God! Behold thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.”

And since there is nothing too hard for God, we ought to put our trust and hope in God when we are faced with tough situations.

Psalms 42:11, and Psalms 43: 5 says, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in(within) me? Hope in God thou in God: for I shall yet praise him who is the health of my countenance and my God.”

When faced with tough situation, instead of getting discouraged, we ought to hope in God.

Psalm 31:24 says, “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.”

Psalm 33:18 says, “Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon those that hope in his mercy.”

Psalm 71:5 says, “For thou art my hope, O Lord God; thou art my trust from my youth.”

Psalm 146:5 says, “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God..”

Jeremiah 17: 7 says, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.”

Yes, when faced with a troubled situation in this life, we must learn to hope and trust in God to help us. You see, in this life, we will face problems, pain, sickness, heartaches, setbacks, rejections, etc. But Jesus says in John 16:33 says that “in this world, you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” You must understand that Jesus Christ is bigger than problem, any sickness, any disappointment, or any setback.

When faced with tough situation, instead of getting discouraged and giving up, we ought to do what Psalm 121:1-2 says where says, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from when cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and the earth.”

Instead of allowing ourselves to be discouraged in tough situation, we should always call and look to Jesus Christ in prayer. Phillipians 4:6 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known unto God.”

When faced with a troubled situation, we must learn to encouraged ourselves with the Word of God to give us hope, comfort, and strength. Joshua 1:8 says, “This book(The Word of God) shall not depart out of your mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shall make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

You see the Word of God can give us hope, comfort, and strength when we are faced with a difficult situation in our lives, and that is why we must read God’s word, believe God’s word, study God’s word, hear God’s word, be taught God’s Word, memorize God’s word so we can obey God’s word so we can find hope, comfort, and strength in the midst of our trouble situation.

You see, the word of God tells us that if you are sick, God is a healer who can heal you from all diseases.

If you are in trouble, God is a strong and mighty deliverer

If you lack anything, God is our great Provider.

If you need a friend, God will stick close to you than any brother.

If you need salvation, need a Savior, Jesus Chris the Savior of the world. In matter of face when you have Jesus Christ, you have God because Jesus Christ is the second person in the Godhead as the Son, and when you have Jesus Christ, you have God as well.

Last but not least, when you are face with a tough situation, don’t give up, don’t become discourage, but also start praising God!!!! Praising God can help you defeat discouragement. If you don’t believe me, read 2nd Chronicles 20:1-37, where you will read how King Jehoshaphat had led the tribe of Judah to defeat three nations in a war by prayer and praise.

And in Acts 16:1-33, you will read how Paul and Silas were delivered from the prison cells by prayer and praise. And just as God helped Jehoshaphat, Paul and Silas through their prayer and praise, God will work on your behalf when you hope, trust, pray, and trust in Him. Don’t wait till you get the answer from God to praise Him. You need to praise Him before you get the answer. You see, God is worthy to be praise during the good days, and bad days. He is worthy to be praised during the happy and sad days. And when you praise God in the midst of your discouragement, you will experience the victory in Christ, you will experience joy in Christ, and peace in Christ. No matter what comes your way, always give God the honor and the praise.
