“Will there be tears in Heaven?”
Key verse: (Psa 56:8 KJV) Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
Introduction:
No, there will not be any tears in the final state of Heaven. God shall wipe away all tears from the eyes of the saints. But there will be tears at the “Bema” seat of Christ. Please read these following verses concerning the Day of Judgment for the saved:
(1 Cor 3:11-15 KJV) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
There will be tears on the Day of Judgment for the saved. Both glad tears and sad tears.
Glad Tears…
1. There will be glad tears when I see Christ.
(Rev 1:7 KJV) Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
What a joy it will be to see Christ surrounded by the four and twenty elders, praised by the angels, and adored by the saints. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
2. There will be glad tears when I see my loved ones.
(1 Th 4:16-18 KJV) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
3. There will be glad tears when I am rewarded for what I have done for Christ.
(Mark 9:41 KJV) For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
4. There will be glad tears when I am able to see fully what Christ has done for me.
(1 Cor 13:12 KJV) For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
There are so many things that I do not understand today. Life seems so unfair at times. One day, God is going to explain it all to me. Until then, with the help of God’s Spirit, I can have a peace that passes all understanding.
Not only will there be glad tears. But there will also be sad tears. The tears God is wiping away in Revelations Chapter 21, are the tears that I will be weeping at the White Throne Judgment in Revelation Chapter twenty!
1. There will be Sad Tears when I look at the wasted years of my life.
(Luke 16:1 KJV) And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
Most people know of the story of the prodigal son in Luke Chapter 15. The prodigal son wasted his substance with riotous living. What could be worse than that? In Chapter 16, the unjust steward wasted his Master’s substance by lazy living!
2. There will be sad tears when I look at those whom I have hurt because of my wasted years.
(Ezek 33:6 KJV) But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
I have always pictures the White Throne Judgment to have the lost bowing before Christ. The saved are in the balcony. When the lost receive their sentence of eternal punishment, I always envision lost friends and loved ones looking at me. There are wondering why I did try to win them to Christ. Sad tears fill my eyes.
4. There will be sad tears when I look at what could have been for Christ, but was not.
(Phil 3:12 KJV) Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
The apostle Paul wanted to live up to his full potential in Christ. Certainly there is more that we could be doing for Christ.
But the saddest tears of all will be shed by the lost without Christ!
(Mat 7:23 KJV) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
(Mat 13:50 KJV) And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
The tears of the lost man in Hell will be forever. They will never have the tears wiped away from their eyes!
Conclusion:
It would be so much better if we would shed our sad tears now, so that we can experience joyful tears later!
