THE PARABLE OF THE WEDDING
Matthew 22:1-14
Key Verse and Theme: “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are invited, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:13-14)
1. The king prepares a wedding banquet for his son.
A. The king is God the Father.
B. The bridegroom is the Son.
C. Many are invited to witness the union of the Son with his bride.
2. The invited guests refuse to attend.
A. Many guests make excuses.
B. Some guests even mistreat the servants.
C. The king destroyed those who mistreated his servants.
3. The king asks for guest to be brought to the banquet.
A. The banquet was ready, but the invited guests were not worthy.
B. The king sends out the invitation to everyone.
C. The servants brought everyone they could find, good and bad.
4. The king makes a judgment about one of the guests.
A. One of the new guests was not wearing wedding clothes.
B. The king asked how he got in without wedding clothes.
C. The guest was thrown out of the banquet.
5. Now What?
A. Israel was invited before the wedding; the church was invited after Israel refused to attend.
B. You may have been invited but you have to have the right clothes to stay. (Romans 13:11-14)
C. Where else is there weeping and gnashing of teeth?

2. Weeping and gnashing of teeth is always found outside the presence of the king.
