What Were The Purposes Of Jesus’ Life?

1. Jesus came to give us an opportunity to be forgiven.

2. Jesus came to initiate a world-shaking Kingdom.

- Luke 4:43 - “. . . but He said to them, ‘I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.’” (NKJV)

3. Jesus came to “do something” about the evil in the world.

- 1 John 3:8 - “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (NKJV)

4. Jesus came to reveal to us God’s wisdom for our lives.

- Mark 1:38 - “But He said to them, ‘Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.’” (NKJV)

What Happens When We Live According To God’s Purposes For Us?

1. We can have absolute confidence in our place in God’s heart.

- 2 Timothy 1:9 - “. . . God, who has saved us. . ., according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus. . .” (NKJV)

2. We can enlist in the greatest war that’s ever been waged.

- 2 Timothy 1:9 - “. . . God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus. . .” (NKJV)

- 1 Thessalonians - “For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification.” (NASB)

3. We can know that there’s more for us than a seventy-year sprint.

- Ephesians 1:11 - “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will. . .” (NKJV)

- 2 Corinthians 5:5 - “Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.” (NASB)

4. We can hold tight to the knowledge that God is even working through our darkest hours.

- Romans 8:28 - “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (NKJV)
