Summary: To be planted like a tree, you must be a believer and a doer of God’s word.

Psalms 1:1-3

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Topic-To be planted like a tree in Jesus Christ

The book of Psalms is known as the song book of the bible. In the book of Psalms, there are over 150 worship and praise songs that has been used in many various worship and devotional services throughout the world and generations. In the first number of Psalms verses one through three(1-3), we read and learn about some of the things that a blessed man of God does in his life. Now the word blessed in these passage of scripture means happy. That is the blessed man in Psalms 1:1-3 is a happy man. He is a contented man. He is a satisfied man. Now it must be noted that the blessed man is not a happy man, a contented man, or a satisfied man because he has a nice bank account, or because he drives fancy cars, or because he wears fancy clothes, or because he lives in a big fancy house. But rather the blessed man in Psalm 1:1-3 is a happy, contented and a satisfied man because of his relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

In Psalms 1:1-3 says, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly……

That is, “Blessed is the man that does not follow or take heed to bad advice; Blessed is the man that does not follow or take heed to any doctrine that does glorify Jesus Christ as Lord because the bible does say in I John 4:1-3 where it says, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirit whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world; Hereby know ye the Spirit of God; Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God, And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God and this is that spirit of anti-Christ, where of ye have heard that it should come; and even now already it is in the world.”

---“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners……

That is, Blessed is the man that does not get caught up in bad relationships; or Blessed is the man that does not follow or hang out with the wrong crowd because the scriptures does say in Exodus 23:2- “ Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil” and in I Corinthians 15:33 says, “Be not deceived; evil communication corrupt good manners.”

-----“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful…….

That is, Blessed is the man that does not mock, tear down, or poke fun of the church, the things of God, the Word of God, or the pastor because Romans 16:17-18 says, “Now I beseech you brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”

You see, the blessed man is not going to tear down the church or the pastor, but a blessed man is going to pray and support the church and the pastor.

Yes, the scripture says in Psalm 1:1-3- “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight ( that is, his happiness, his excitement, his contentment, his satisfaction) is in the law of the Lord…..which is the Word of God.

Now to find delight in the law of the Lord, you first of all, must trust and delight yourself in the Lord himself. Psalm 37:3-4 says, “Trust in the Lord and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give you the desires of your heart.” And when you delight yourself in the Lord, you can’t help but find delight in his Word, because in the law of the Lord, you will learn how you can find joy, how you can find peace, how you can find love, how you can find grace, and how you can find mercy.

In the law of the Lord, you can learn how you can find guidance, how you can find directions, and how you can find instruction for righteousness.

In the law of the Lord, you will learn how you can find healing, how you can find strength, how you can find deliverance, how you can find hope, how you can find eternal life, how you can find abundant life, how you can find power, and how you can find salvation in Jesus Christ. One must understand that the law of the Lord according to Galatians 3:24 is our school master that brings us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Yes, the law of the Lord teaches that we are not saved by our good works, but by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, we are saved and have eternal life.

Yes, the blessed man delights n the law of the Lord. And he delights in it so much that he meditates on in day and night. That is, The blessed man does not just wait until Sunday to hear the Word, but every day of the week he is thinking about the Word of God. On Monday, he is thinking about the Word. On Tuesday, he is thinking about the Word. On Wednesday, he is thinking about the Word. On Thursday, he thinking about the Word. On Friday, he is thinking about the Word. On Saturday, he is thinking about the Word. And on Sunday, he is thinking about the Word. Now to think or meditate on the Word, you must spend time in the Word. You must spend time reading theWord, you must spend time studying the Word, you must spend time being taught and be trained in the Word and the reason why you need to read the Word, study the Word, be taught the Word so you can meditate on the Word , and when you are able to meditate on the Word, you will learn how to live right by the Word, talk right by the Word, walk right by the Word, love right by the Word, preach right by the Word, teach right by the Word, worship and praise God right by the Word, pray right by the Word, treat your neighbor right by the Word, treat your wife right by the Word, treat your kids right by the Word, find your blessing by the Word.

Colossians 3:16 says “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, sing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

And because the blessed man in Psalm 1 does not follow bad advice( walking after ungodly counsel)

Because the blessed man in Psalm 1 does not follow the wrong crowd( stands in the way of sinners)

Because the blessed man in Psalm 1 does not sit in the seat of the scornful( make fun the church, the things of God, or the pastor)

And because the blessed man in Psalm 1 delights and meditates on the law of God,

The scriptures says that “he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season: his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Now if you look in Jeremiah 17:7-8, it says, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when the heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green: and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”

Now notice something. Notice that in Psalm 1 and Jeremiah says that if we delight in God’s word, and if trust and hope in the Lord, we shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water…….

Now the word “planted” in Psalm 1 and Jeremiah 17 means to be “transplanted”, which gives the idea that that the tree in Psalm 1 and Jeremiah 17 at one point was planted somewhere else, but somebody came and uprooted the tree and planted it by the river of waters so it can live and grow to be a strong, healthy, fruitful tree.

And whether you know it or not, we are just like a trees. One day we were all planted in sin and in wickedness. But when we accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we were uprooted out of sin, uprooted out of wickedness, and was planted in the Kingdom of God, and in Jesus Christ. And when you are planted in Jesus Christ, you will have the joy of the Lord, the peace of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, the power to produce the fruit that pleases God, which is love. You will have salvation and eternal life. And when you are planted in Jesus Christ, Paul says in Romans 8:39 that nothing can separate you from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, Our Lord. When you are planted in Jesus Christ, no man or no circumstances can uproot you from his love, from his grace, and from his mercy.

And to be planted in Jesus Christ, you must believe and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. You must believe that He is the Son of God who died upon the cross and rose from the dead with all power in his hands.
