I. The Basis for Baptism is the Authority of Jesus

B. “Repent,” Peter said to them, “and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins.” Acts 2:38 (HCSB)

C. “So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them.” Acts 2:41 (HCSB)

D. “Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, believed the Lord, along with his whole household; and many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized.” Acts 18:8 (HCSB)

II. The Symbol of Baptism is the Atonement of Jesus

1. DEATH – BURIAL - RESURRECTION

2. “Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in a new way of life.” Romans 6:3-4 (HCSB)
