There Is More To Me Than The Eye Can See!
1Sa 16:1-13
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons. And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear [it], he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me [him] whom I name unto thee. And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD’S anointed [is] before him. But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all [thy] children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he [was] ruddy, [and] withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this [is] he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
Verse 1 starts with God asking a question: How long wilt thou mourn for Saul?
Stop mourning over your past.
Stop mourning over who left you.
Stop mourning because of what they did to you.
Stop mourning because of what happened to you.
Stop mourning over what didn’t turn out right.
Stop mourning over who did you wrong.
It’s time to stop mourning for Saul!
God also said to the prophet: Fill your horn with oil, and go...for I have provided for me a king. My job as the pastor, the preacher, the prophet, the teacher is to fill my horn so I can find the king in you. I have to be filled the Spirit so I won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. I have to fill myself so I won’t be full of myself. I have to stop looking at me so I can see what is on the inside of you. There is a king inside of you. Say to yourself “There is more to me than the eye can see!”
Verse 7 says:
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
It’s not what’s on the outside that counts; it’s Who is on the inside! There is a King inside of you and His name is name is Jesus Christ. He’s called the King of kings because the king in you has anointed you to king. The book of Revelation says this about those who are with the King of kings. It says He has called you to be called. He has chosen you to be chosen. And He has put faith in you for you to be faith-filled and faithful. The King has anointed you to be much more than the eye can see. There is potential in you. There is promise in you. There is purpose in you. You just need a preacher to let you know there is a King in you and Jesus Christ the King has placed greatness upon you. The King in you has anointed you to be a king too. If you are trying to decide on which church is the right church for you, make sure you find a pastor that is prayed up to fill up his horn with oil. And look for a pastor that is looking for the king in you so He can tell you that the King has anointed you to be king. The turning point in David’s life was when a preacher came to him and told him he was going to be someone special. I find it interesting that Jesse brought all of the boys except David. That let’s me know that even if I don’t look the part, I’m still anointed. Even if my earthly father rejected me, my heavenly Father has not. I’m still anointed. Even if there are people over me that are more qualified and more educated than me and have been in the position longer, I’m still anointed. David did not go through the sanctification process in verse 5 with his brothers, but he was still anointed. He came straight from the field for the priest to tell him he was anointed. You may have straight from the "hood", straight from the country; but you are still anointed. David still had the smell of goats and sheep upon him; but he was still anointed. You may have just come out of your sin. You may still have on the stench of whatever you’ve been in. Don’t go back in because you are destined to be more than you’ve been because you are anointed!
Verse 13 says:
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
David was not the same after the preacher told he was anointed. The Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. Some you need the Spirit of the LORD to come upon you from this day forward. You need to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. If you believe there is a King in you that has anointed you to be a king, let Him pour His oil on you so you can have the Spirit of the LORD to come upon you from this day forward. The King wants to endow you. The King wants to endorse you. The King wants to bless you with His heavenly resources and supply. You can be filled with the Spirit from this day forward. You can be full of the Spirit from this day forward. It’s all a matter of believing and receiving what the King in you wants to put on you. If you believe the King in you has anointed you to be a king, there are some things you will do and some things you will not do.
1. Drinking and Drugs are not for kings
Pro 31:4 [It is] not for kings, O Lemuel,
[it is] not for kings to drink wine; nor
for princes strong drink:
2. Flirting and Fornication are not for kings
Pro 31:3 Give not thy strength unto women,
nor thy ways to that which destroyeth
kings.
Verse thirteen ends with this statement.
…So Samuel rose up,and went to Ramah.
Ramah means “the hill”. Once you believe and receive what the King has placed upon you, the preacher can rise up and go up. Once you start to do what the King has called you to do, the preacher can rise up and go up. Once you choose to do what King has chosen for, the preacher can rise up and go up. Once you are faithful to do what the King has filled you with faith to do, the preacher can rise up and go up. When the people in the pulpit grow up, then the preacher can rise up and go up. The preacher is supposed to be up on the hill (in the pulpit) focused on prayer and the ministry of the word, not focused on the functions that should come from the pews. We can’t go up and grow out until the preacher can rise up and go up. The preacher can’t rise up and go up until the people step up and grow up to believe that the King in them has anointed you to be more than the eye can see. The preacher can’t rise up and go up until the people step up and grow up and say “There is more to me than the eye can see because there is a King inside of me!”
