My Goodness is Nothing Apart From You O God (Psalm 16)

Where do you go when you want to find something good, beneficial and helpful? When David was in exile desperately needing help, benefits and blessings He went to the Lord. In Psalms 16, David gives us insights in to the bountiful blessings found in the Lord that we can benefit from today. The following are several of the key attributes of God that we can look to for our help, guidance and blessings:

1. Sacrificer – I give praise to you Lord Jesus for sacrificing yourself on the cross to pay the penalty for my sin (Heb. 7:26,27)

2. Salvation – I praise you Lord for being my deliverer. “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom then shall I fear.” (Psa. 127:1)

3. Sanctifier – Lord, I praise you for sanctifying me through your word because your word is truth. (John 17:7) Honor you for setting me apart from the sins of my past, present and future so I may serve you in holiness and purity of motives and through your Spirit’s empowering.

4. Satisfaction – God, how I glorify your name for how you satisfy my desires with good things when nothing else seems to provide fulfillment. I honor you for your promise that says, “Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.” (Psa. 103:5)

5. Satisfier – I praise you Lord that you promise to satisfy the longing soul and fill the hungry soul with what is good. (Psa. 103:5) Thank you God for providing lasting fulfillment.

6. Savior – I praise you God for saving and delivering me from sin, death, judgment and hell. (Rom. 10:9,13)

7. Sealer – I praise you Lord for preventing the departure of the Holy Spirit from my soul. “Set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” (2 Cor. 1:22)

8. Searcher –Thank you God that I do not have to understand the thoughts of another person or their motives since this is your job.

9. Sees All Things –Thank you Lord for helping me be more aware of your oversight in all things.

10. Self-Existent One – I praise you Lord that you are before and above everyone. “God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.” (Ex. 3:14)

11. Servant – I praise you Lord for being willing to provide assistance, work and benefits for the welfare of others. Jesus said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

12. Shade – I praise you Lord for being my cool shelter from the harsh realities of life. “The Lord watches over you. The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.” (Psa. 121:5)

13. Share – I praise you Lord for being my portion that entitles me to share in the riches in Christ. “The Lord said to Aaron, ‘You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them. I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.” (Numb 18:20)

14. Shelter – I praise you Lord for being my protection from all kinds of danger. (Isa. 25:4)

15. Shepherd –Praise you for being the perfect role model for every Pastor. Honor you for being the Lord who is MY Shepherd so I do not have to be in want of any good thing.

16. Shield – I praise you Father for being my protective screen from all kinds of adversity, opposition and hardships. “The Lord is my strength and my shield, my heart trusts in Him and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.” (Psa 28:7)

17. Shiloh – I praise you Lord for being the one to whom all obedience is due. “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between His feet, until He comes to whom it belongs (until Shiloh comes or until He comes to whom tribute belongs) and the obedience of the nations is His.” (Gen. 49:10)

18. Sinless – I praise you God for being perfectly pure, blameless and holy. “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Cor. 5:21)

19. Sin Forgiver and Deliverer - If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:9)

20. Snare – I praise you Lord for being a trap for the evildoers and those who go astray from your will. “And he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem He will be a trap and a snare.” (Isa. 8:14)

21. Solution Giver – I praise you Lord for the promise that you can work all things together for good as long as we love God and are called according to His purposes. (Rom. 8:28,29) Thank you Lord that you can use all hardships, temptations and problems for my best interests through Christ.

22. Son of Man – I praise you Lord for humbling yourself to the level of our humanity.

23. Song – I praise you Lord for being producing a song in my heart that sings of your goodness and truth (Ex. 15:2)

24. Source of Eternal Salvation – I praise you Lord for being the only source of salvation even when others do not acknowledge You as Savior. (Heb. 5:9)

25. Source of Strength – I praise you Lord for being my source of energy, might and power. “He will be a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.” (Isa. 28:6)

26. Sovereign – I praise you Father for being sovereign, the supreme ruler, over all. (I Cor. 2:6-9)

27. Speaker – I praise you Lord for speaking directly to me through your word and Spirit. “For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matt. 10:20)

28. Spirit of Intelligence – I praise you Lord for being the only one we can look as the source of Supreme intelligence. “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” (Isa. 11:2)

29. Spirit of Justice – I praise you Lord for providing complete fairness in all of your judgments and decisions. “In that day the Lord Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of His people. He will be a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.” (Isa. 28:5,6)

30. Spirit Who Leads and Empowers Us To God’s Goals – I praise you Lord for knowing how to guide and enable me to accomplish everything you have asked me to do. Paul wrote, “Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Does God give you His Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you have heard?” (Gal. 3:3,4)

31. Spring of Living Water – I praise you Lord for being my everlasting spring of fresh water that renews and nourishes me in every way. Jeremiah wrote, “My people have committed two sins. They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” (Jer. 2:13)

32. Stabilizer – Lord, I praise you that when I feel unable to stand up to the pressures of life, you stabilize me. (I Pet. 5:7-11)

33. Steadfast – I praise you Lord for being constant, firm and unwavering in your love, truth and power.

34. Stone That Causes Men to Stumble – I praise you Lord for being the cornerstone that may cause some to trip due to their own selfish and limited perspectives. Isaiah wrote, “And He will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel He will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem He will be a trap and snare.” (Isa. 8:14)

35. Strength of His People – I praise you Lord for being my power, energy and source of inspiration. “The Lord is the strength of His people, a fortress of salvation for His anointed one.” (Psa. 28:8)

36. Stress Reliever – I praise you Lord that you know how to alleviate the pressures and tensions of life. Paul wrote, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God that surpasses knowledge will keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:6,7)

37. Strong Deliverer – I praise you Lord for being the one who rescues me from all difficulties. “O Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer; who shields my head in the day of battle.” (Psa. 140:7)

38. Strong Fortress – I praise you Lord for being the refuge where I can always find safety and security. “Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. Since you are my rock and fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.” (Psa. 31:2)

40. Strong Tower – I praise you Lord for being the place where I can run to for shelter from the opposition. Solomon wrote, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Prov. 18:10) David wrote, “For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.” (Psa. 61:3)

41. Stronghold – I praise you Lord for being my fortified place where I can find refuge and protection from all kinds of dangers. Thank you for the promise, “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” (Psa. 9:9)

42. Stronghold of My Life – I praise you Lord for being the secure center for all aspects of my life and ministry. “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? (Psa. 27:1)

43. Stumbling Block – I praise you Lord for being willing to put up with being called a stumbling block for the stubborn and unbelieving. “But we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.” (I Cor. 1:23)

44. Successful – I praise you Lord for always having success in everything you do. “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night. Then you will make your ways prosperous and then you will have good success.” (Josh 1:8)

45. Succor – I praise you Lord for being the help given in time of need. I thank you that I can count on your succor when no one else’s help can deliver me from trouble. Honor you for “Because He Himself suffered when he was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Heb. 2:18)

46. Sufficient Grace – I praise you Lord for the promise, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I can boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. For when I am weak, then I am strong. The less I have the more I depend on you.” (2 Cor. 12:8-10) Thank you Lord for your sufficient answers to all of my problems.

47. Summarizer of Great Truth – I praise you Lord that you knew how to condense truth to make it easy for everyone to understand and obey. Jesus said, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Mt. 7:12)

48. Sun – I praise you Lord for being my source of energy, life and direction. “For the Lord God is a sun and shield, the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” (Psa. 84:11)

49. Sun of Righteousness – I praise you Lord for providing whatever is needed to bring righteousness, truth and honor to a person. “But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall.” (Mal. 4:2)

50. Superior One – I praise you Lord that you have superiority over everyone and everything. “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.” (Col. 1:17)

51. Supplier – God, I praise you for your wonderful promise of adequate provision especially when I am in such desperate need. Paul wrote, “And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19)

52. Support – I praise you Lord for providing the strength, encouragement and provisions necessary to do your will. “They confronted me in the day of my disaster; but the Lord was my support.” (Psa. 18:18)

53. Supreme One – I praise you Lord that you are superior to everyone. “So He became as much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs.” (Heb. 1:4) “The name that is above every other name.” (Phil. 2:9)

54. Sustainer – Gracious Master, I praise you for your sustaining grace when I am too weak, inadequate or insufficient for my trials. I honor you for the promise you gave to Ruth, “He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age.” (Ruth 4:15)

55. Sustainer – I praise you Lord for helping bear the weight of my burdens. I honor you for helping me through times of suffering with your all-sufficient grace. Thank you for the promise, “He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age.” (Ruth 4:15)

56. Synergistic One – I praise you Lord that you can work all things together for good since I love you and am called according to your purposes.” (Rom. 8:28) Thank you Lord for synergistically being able to work everything together for a synthesis of a better outcome. I bless you Lord that you can bring to bear your sovereign power on every encounter.
