The Salty Christian

Introduction

1- The Jewish Nation was the salt of the Earth till the Church was born.

2- The Kingdom was set aside because of unbelief and the Church was born.

Transition

1-Today, We want to talk about being a Salty christian.

I- The Christian character is to be like salt.

1- Salt is distinctive.

Salt is a wonder. Salt is composed of two poisonous substances. How is it possible that salt, which is necessary to life, is composed of sodium and chlorine, either of which if taken individually, would kill you?

The concentration of salt in the Dead Sea is ten times higher than that of any other sea or lake on earth. Every liter of its sea water contains an average of 30 grams of salts and other minerals. It is one of the greatest sources of salt in the world.

Application- Christians are to be distinctive.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 (KJV)

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty

2-Salt preserves

Satan And Salt

It is still not uncommon to put salt into a coffin, and we are told the reason: Satan hates salt, because it is the symbol of incorruption and immortality.

—Papatus

Application- Christians are to be preservers.

A- Preserve a sound Bible doctrine.

B- Preserve a sound church.

C- Preserve a sound Christian life.

3- Salt penetrates

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

4- Salt causes thirst

11170. Thirstier From Ocean Water Drink

Ocean water contains seven times more salt than the human body can safely ingest. Drinking it, a person dehydrates because the kidneys demand extra water to flush the overload of salt. The more salt water someone drinks, the thirstier he gets. He actually dies of thirst. When we lust, we become like this man. We thirst desperately for something that looks like what we want. We don’t realize, however, that it is precisely the opposite of what we really need. In fact, it can kill us.

7004. Salt Creates Thirst

At a meeting some young people were discussing the text, "Ye are the salt of the earth." One suggestion after another was made as to the meaning of "salt" in this verse.

"Salt imparts a desirable flavor," said one.

"Salt preserves from decay," another suggested.

Then a Chinese Christian girl spoke out of an experience none of the others had. "Salt creates thirst," she said, and there was a sudden hush in the room. Everyone was thinking: Have I ever made anyone thirsty for the Lord Jesus Christ?

II- The Christian mission is to salt the Earth.

1- Christians must have salt in themselves.

Mark 9:50 (KJV)

50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

2- Christians must spread salt into the world.

Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV)

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

III- The Christian warning of becoming saltless.

1- Christians can backslide.

a. He becomes useless just as salt does.

b. He is of no value. He may as well be cast out and trodden underfoot.

c. He actually destroys the fertility of some out in the world by becoming a stumbling block and by not being able to salt them.

Luke 9:62 (KJV)

62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Hebrews 10:38 (KJV)

38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

2 Peter 2:20 (KJV)

20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

2- Christian backsliders can be cast out.

Matthew 5:13 (KJV)

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
