I. PLEASE COME AND STUDY WITH ME WHAT IS SIN?

WHAT ARE THE WORKS OF THE FLESH?

A. FEW ARE EVER TAUGHT HOW DANGEROUS THE WORKS OF THE FLESH ARE?

B. DO WE KNOW? How can we avoid what we do not know?

C. WHAT IS SIN? BIBLICAL ANSWER:

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

D. FROM WHERE DOES SIN COME?

James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

E. SIN STARTS AS A SEED, THOUGHT, A DESIRE AND GROWS.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

II. SIN IS BOTH ADDICTIVE AND BUILDS A TOLERANCE.

A. HABITUAL/ ADDICTIVE:

The settled tendency or usual matter of behavior

A behavioral pattern acquired by frequent repetition

Dependence

Compulsive need for the use

A habit

Physiological need and symptoms if not satisfied or withdrawal

Persistent compulsive use known to be harmful

The need to resort to on a regular basis

Behavior becomes automatic, unthinking

Becomes mental makeup

B. TOLERANCE:

Sympathy or indulgence for practice conflicting with one’s own value system.

The capacity of the body to endure more and be less responsive to a substance

Repeated use making less effective

III. TWO KINDS OF SIN

IV. SIN CAN BE MORE THAN THE DEED OR THE ACT,

SIN CAN INVOLVE THE THOUGHT PROCESS.

V. THERE IS A TRAIL THAT LEADS DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO SIN.

9. INDEPENDANT --- REBELLIOUS SPIRIT

10. HATRED

VI. THERE ARE 17 WORKS OF THE FLESH, THESE WORKS WILL ALWAYS BREED SPIRITUAL CONFLICT WITHIN AND WITHOUT!

Galatians 5:16-21

[16] This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

[17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. [18] But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. [19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,

uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] Envyings, murders,

2. 2 SINS LACKING TOTAL SUBMISSION TO GOD, SUPERSTITION

3. 9 SINS OF THE TEMPER

4. 2 SINS OF THE APPETITE

VIII. HERE ARE THE 17 WORKS OF THE FLESH. DID YOU KNOW THEM?

1---4 ARE LUSTFUL , SEXUAL IN NATURE.

1. ADULTERY

Sexual violation of marriage.

Unlawful sexual relationships between man and a woman.

2. FORNICATION

Voluntary sexual relationship with unmarried.

3. UNCLEANNESS

Pornographic material, written, pictures, computer, book, magazine.

Written or spoken.

What is the opposite of pure.

Sodomy, Homosexuality, Lesbianism, Bisexual, Bestiality

and all sexual perversion.

4. LASCIVIOUSNESS

Uncorrected, undisciplined thoughts and desires of the heart and

mind. ---CONDUCT OR LANGUAGE.

Lewdness, wanton, lustful, indecent, undisciplined, unmanaged

behavior.

Flying or playing loosely.

To follow one’s passions and lust and desire to a point of no shame

or public decency.

THE NEXT TWO ARE SINS OF SUPERSTITION AND LACK OF KNOWING

THE WORD OF GOD AND A LACK OF RESPECTING GOD.

5. IDOLATRY:

Worship of any thing other than God.

Worship spirits, talk to the dead,

graven images, any thing on which our extreme passions and

affections are set.

To trust in a person, place or thing, or institution with equal or greater

than God’s authority or word or church.

6. WITCHCRAFT

Superstition is a practice that comes from fear, ignorance, or the unknown.

A notion maitained despite evidence to the contrary.

Magic spells, incantations, charms, potions, sorcery, black magic,

irresistible influence, spiritualism.

ESP, talking to the dead, ---

using drugs to bring spiritual feelings.

Horoscope, reading the stars, superstition.

THERE ARE 9 WORKS OF THE FLESH DEALING WITH THE TEMPER.

7. HATRED

INTENSE HOSTILITY FROM FEAR, ANGER, OR A SENSE OF INJURY.

Lack of forgiveness, extreme dislike,

8. VARIANCE

Incompatible, opposite,

To be disagreeable, disputing.

To be in conflict.

A license to be contrary.

9. EMULATIONS

Striving to excel, to be better than the rest, seeking to surpass,

rivalry, competition, can’t stand anothers success.

10. WRATH

Lasting, long term anger.

Fits of rage

Violent, exposive anger

Blow up in words and/or actions

Domestic or Civil turmoils

Turbulent passion

11. STRIFE

Strong hostile feelings --- disagreeable

Argumentive, debates, quarreling, struggle, dispute

12. SEDITIONS

Not supportive, will not help the program,

rebellious, not submitted to authority

divisive, stir up trouble and discontentment,

break up friends, have the social cliques, factions, resist, rebel.

13. HERESIES

Failure to conform to good standands.

Having contrary religious opinions.

To deny truth.

To keep opinions that are contrary to the standard.

Dissention, deviation.

14. ENVYINGS

To desire what another has, to debase others, jealous of good fortune, resentful, not satisfied,

A sense of superiority

15. MURDERS

To kill, to take the life out of,

to spoil or marr another.

TWO SINS OF THE APPETITE

16. DRUNKENNESS

Drinking bouts.

Out of control, to excite spirits,

to be a slave to something, overcomed by the power of emotions.

GIVEN TO EXCESSIVENESS --- IMPAIRED PHYSICAL OR MENTAL STATE.

17. REVELLINGS

A party hardy spirit.

excessive feasting, loud music, orgies,

activities given to pleasure.

To make happy or merry.

SIN WILL:

1. TAKE YOU FARTHER THAN YOU PLANNED ON GOING.

2. KEEP YOU LONGER THAN YOU PLANNED ON STAYING

3. COST YOU MORE THAN YOU PLANNED ON PAYING.
