Summary: The often repeated ’I Will’ is used to develop this sermon- starting with the Lord’s I Will of Salvation through to the sinners ’I Will’ of Repentance.

I THE ‘I WILL’ OF SALVATION

Exodus 12:13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.

SALVATION IS BY BLOOD

I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

NO OTHER WAY

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.

II THE ‘I WILL’ OF CLEANSING

Matthew 8:2 & 3 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. [AV]

CLEANSING COMES BY CONFESSION OF NEED

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

CONFESSION BRINGS MERCY

Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

III THE ‘I WILL’ OF CERTAINTY

Matthew 16:18 And I tell you . . . on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

THE CHURCH IS KEPT BY HIS POWER

Romans 8:35 - 39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Luke 1:37 Nothing is impossible with God.

IV THE ‘I WILL’ OF COMFORT

Hebrews 13:5 & 6 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." 6 So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

HIS PRESENCE IS ASSURED BY A TRUTHFUL HEART

Psalm 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

THE NEEDS TO BE A DETERMINED ACT ON OUR PART

Psalm 16:8 & 9 I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,

V THE ‘I WILL’ OF ANTICIPATION

John 17:24 "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

THE REALISATION IS CONDITIONAL ON THE LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE

Revelation 21:27 – 22:5 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

VI THE ‘I WILL’ OF PROMISE

John 14:1 – 3 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

THE PROMISE IS CERTAIN

I Thessalonians 4:16 & 17 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord for ever.

VII THE ‘ WILL’ OF REPENTANCE

Luke 15:18 &19a I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son

A DECISION MUST BE MADE

Joshua 24:15 Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
