WHAT GOD IS

I. GOD IS LIGHT

REVEALING OUR SIN

I John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all AV

Proverbs 4:19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble

John 3:19 Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil

Romans 13:12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.

II. GOD IS LOVE

REDEEMING OUR SOULS

I John 4:8 & 9 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

III. GOD IS A SPIRIT

RENEWING OUR NATURE

John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth."

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Titus 3:5 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

IV. GOD IS HOLY

RESTORING OUR LIVES

Isaiah 5:16 But the LORD Almighty will be exalted by his justice, and the holy God will show himself holy by his righteousness.

Psalm 23:3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple

V. GOD IS A FIRE

REFINING OUR GRACES

Hebrews 12:29 our "God is a consuming fire."

I Peter 4:12 & 13 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

I Peter 1:7 These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.

VI. GOD IS RIGHTEOUS

REWARDING OUR WORKS

Psalm 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving towards all he has made.

I Corinthians 3:12 - 14 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.

Revelation 22:12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.

VII. GOD IS ETERNAL

REJOICING OUR FUTURE

Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God

I Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

Psalm 132:16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall ever sing for joy.
