Title : A Sound Mind
Text: 2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
A sound mind is very essential and important in living the Christian life. Right thinking leads to correct Living. The heart refers to our emotions and feelings whereas the mind refers to our thoughts, thinking, imaginations, comprehension and logical reasoning. Having a sound mind is very important because we move, make decisions and act according to the perception and comprehension of the mind. As the saying goes “ What you think .. you are “ and our eternity depends on “ What think ye of Christ ? The believer should earnestly pray for a sound mind.
I. A Sound Mind is a Pure Mind
2 Peter 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in [both] which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
a. It is washed and purged by the Blood of Christ Hebrews 9:14 ; 1 Corinth. 6:11
b. It is a renewed mind Romans 12:2
c. It is founded on the pure doctrines of God and Christian virtues 2 Peter 1:5-10
II. A Sound Mind is A Pattern Mind
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
a. It is pattern after the mind of Christ Phil. 2:5
b. It is a Humble mind 1 Timothy 6:17
c. It focuses on Christ and on things above Colossians 3:1
III. A Sound Mind is A Powerful Mind
a. Able to discern between evil and good, between good and best Hebrews 5:14; Romans 12:2
b. Able to discern God’s Will and Spiritual Things Ephesians 5:17; 1 Corinth. 2:13-15
c. Able to discern Satan’s wiles 2 Corinth 2:11
IV. A Sound Mind is A Positive Mind.
a. Optimistic and hopeful 2 Timothy 1:12 ; Romans 8:28
b. Feeds on Christian virtues Philippians 4:8 “ think on these things “
c. Meditate on the Word of God Psalms 1:2
Satan, our adversary has blinded and corrupted the minds of the world, and he wants the believers to have a confused minds. Let us then humbly and diligently ask the Lord to sustain us by His grace and give us a sound mind.
