Summary: God’s prized creation, man, has a purpose.

Created to Wear a Crown

Gen. 1:24-26

INTRO: The Sixth Day of Creation

1. God steps out of nothing onto nothing and creates

everything from nothing

a. Evening then day order = Jews recognize a day begins at

6pm not 12 midnight as we do today

2. The days of Creation

a. Day 1. Gives light separating light from darkness

b. Day 2 Separated the elements water & heaven outer space

c. Day 3 Created dry land and all the plant life

d. Day 4 Creation of the Sun, Moon & stars, creating the 24

hour day for earth

e. Day 5 Creation of birds of the air & creatures of the

sea/water life

f. Day 6 Animal life & then crowning act of creation,

Mankind

*God & Dirt There was a group of scientists who got together one day and decided that man had come a long way and no longer needed God. So they picked one scientist to go and tell God that they were done with Him. The scientist walked up to God and said, “God, we’ve decided that we no longer need you. We’re to the point we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so we just don’t need you anymore.” God listened very patiently and kindly to the man and after the scientist was done talking, God said, “Very well, how about this, let’s say we have a ‘man-making’ contest.” To which the scientist replied, “OK, great!” God added, “Now, we’re going to do this just like I did in the old days with Adam.” The scientist said, “Sure, no problem” and bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt. God just looked at him and said, “No…you get and make your own dirt.”

g. Day 7 God rested, that principle remains of rest

3. Animals of various kinds small to large

a. Snails to rabbits, to dogs to sheep to cattle to elephants

1. included monkeys and apes

b. But apparent life appeared in creative leaps boundaries of

“kinds”

1. They are not created of same kind & changed or evolved into

another species

4. Look at the process order: light water, space, down to

planet earth land, various forms of life to the final target

a. Man: the Goal the focus ultimately is creation of MAN

1. The Climax of 6 days of creation is MAN

2. The fossil record reveals man comes last in the order of life

appearing on earth

b. We shall see more of this later both today & next week

I. v26 Who is there, when Humanity began?

A. A Great difference in the origin of man than that of animals

1. Animal life appeared same way plant life, & the fish & birds

a. Same language is used in their creation so evidently

following the same manner of emergence

1. v11 And god said, Let the earth bring forth….

2. v14 Let there be lights in the firmament…

a. v16 God made two great lights

3. v20 Let the waters bring forth….

a. v21 and God created whales…

4. v24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth….

a. v25 And God made the beast….

2. But there is difference note, different atmosphere with man

a. When time for man to be created

3. A Distinct Consultation was held about him v26 “Let us make man in our image. After our likeness…”

4. Immediate Question: To whom is God speaking to?

a. Can’t be another human, aren’t any yet

b. Angels? Not likely the angels will be our servants

c. v27 answers God Himself

5. The first indication of the Triune God-head

a. Though we have ONE God He is not a single unity

b. There are other persons in the God-head

1. Scripture tells: God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Spirit

6. Yes God exists in a strange three-fold unity

a. 3 in 1 not 3 Gods but only 1

b. Yet subsisting eternally in 3 remarkable co-equal &

co-essential persons

7. About as far as we can go in defining God

8 But here it is with the creation of man God reveals himself in

the unique way

B. Notice that man stands as a link between God and creation

1. Man is a mediator between God & His created universe

2. Jesus Christ appeared as the 2nd Adam, the Perfect man, is

also a mediator

a. But between God & man

b. But here man (Adam) is created as mediator between God

& all the animal kingdom - animal life

3. Man created in the image of God which links us to God

a. But we are also the governor of the created world

1. Have dominion over planet earth, plant life, fish, birds & animal life

a. Be careful in this understanding, some would justification of abuse

**Pot arrest Several years ago a man was arrested in Olathe, Kansas, for possession of the marijuana, Herb Overton based his defense on Gen l:29: “and God said, … I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of the earth …” Judge Earl Jones doubted Overton’s hermeneutics, however. According to a Chicago Tribune account, the judge told the Bible-quoting defendant: “As a mere mortal, I’m going to find you guilty of possession of marijuana. If you want to appeal to a higher authority, that’s fine with me.”17

II. Are we linked to the animals?

A. According the THEORY of Evolution we are

1. According to Mr Darwin man is the end product of animal

life & therefore are the highest form of animals

a. So we hear that we are not very far removed from the

animals

1. Close links between man & animals specially apes

a. There are a lot similarities with various animals even pigs, our

digestive system is almost identical

2. Does that make man a pig? Some try to act like it

3. If monkeys are our brothers are we are brother’s keeper?

B. But the evidence states otherwise

1. This is not an argument of Science vs. Theology

a. But science vs. science

*Errol White and ichthyologist (specialist of fish) President of the Linnaean Society in London says, “I have often thought how little I should like to have to prove organic evolution in a court of law.”

*E.R. Leach Nature mag. “Missing links in the sequence of fossil evidence were a worry to Darwin. (1859 to present approx 150yrs) He felt sure they would eventually turn up (100yrs) but they are still missing and seems likely to remain so.”

2. The fossil record does not collaborate the idea of man

coming from apes though will see pictures saying so

**David Kitts Pref of Biology @OU evolutionist ‘Despite the bright promise that paleontology provides a means of “seeing” evolution, it has presented some nasty difficulties for evolutionists the most notorious of which is the “gaps” in the fossil record. Evolution requires intermediate forms between species and paleontology does not provide them.”

a. There is a wide gap of evidence biologically, historically

geologically & in paleontology between man and monkeys

b. Even the evolutionists admit the evidence isn’t there, it is

just an idea, wishful thinking why still only a theory not fact

3. Bible clearly declares God’s direct hand of creation on us

Ps 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made: marvellous [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth right well.

C. Some who wants to say God created man’s body via evolution from animals then placed a unique created soul with in him

1. Evolution produces things that die

2. Scripture tells us Adam was created an immortal being

a. Does not mean someone who could not die

b. But that he need not die

1. If man had never took of the forbidden fruit, never sinned, Adam

would be alive today in the Garden

3. Jesus is also an immortal being

a. He did not need to die, Jn 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

b. Jesus did not die because of the effects of the crucifixion

1. But dismissed His spirit by His own executive act of His will

Lk 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

4. If the 1stt Adam was a immortal soul in a mortal body

a. Then the 2nd Adam (Jesus) would not be like us

1. Scripture teaches he came like us in every way

Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

b. Therefore scripture denies the evolving of mankind

5. Redemption is the process of restoration of man to what He

once was.

a. We know when the redemptive act is complete, man will

stand in front of God His creator, body, soul & Spirit

b. All made in the power of endless life

III. But Why are we Here?

A. v26 The purpose for which man was made

1. Given Dominion over the created universe

2. Were made to master the world in which He placed us

3. Though man is fallen, are less than were created or intended

a. Man has never forgotten that command & this accounts for

our persistent desire to master the forces of the earth

1. Climb the highest mount. To go to deepest place in ocean

2. Conquer space and the laws of nature

3. To utilize animals for own purpose

b. Yet because of our fallen condition

1. We are destroying what we are commanded to have dominion over

& to keep as stewards

3. This txt isn’t to teach us what our instinct already informs of

a. Verse is illustrating to us that when we become redeemed,

saved, converted born again

b. We are called to reign in life, to master life Ro 5:17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Jn 10:10 “…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.”

c. Reign in Life, not heaven but life

1. To control, to govern the effects of life around us

2. To not allow the events of life to dictate our joy or happiness

3. But what ever life throws at us we are victorious 1Co 15:57 But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Co 2:14 Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith.

4. Yes we are….we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Rom 8:37

d. The Redeemed person is to never be a hapless victim of

circumstances

1. We are to face what the world throws at us with faith & courage,

knowing 1Jo 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

B. What is available to us have Dominion

1. 1st Prayer: a. Communication between man & God

a. Also a means of control of the events of life

1Ti 2:1-2 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

b. Purpose of prayer, so the we can live the quiet & peaceable life

1. Be peace makers, Christ like in a fallen world

2. We can be ambassadors of heaven Present the Good News

c. When life becomes a challenge, when it gets in the way of

loving Lord & others, prayer is our instrument of peace

2. 2nd Resources, Weaponry Arsenal of heaven

2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

a. We are sooo foolish to lay aside the promises of God, the

Power of the Almighty & the Wisdom of the mind of Christ

b. For the puny things of this world : Human talent, intellect

& limitations

c. Those of the Faith Chapter Heb 11 used all the resources

God provided & they were declared Winners

1. What shall you do? Jas 1:12 Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

d. We were created to be winners, victorious, to wear a crown
