Jeremiah 29:11 is not about our own personal fulfillment, it’s about our spiritual fulfillment. If we take scripture out of context, we run the risk of making scripture fit our life, instead of making our life fit scripture.

James is saying we should have joy when we go through trials or test that God allows us to go through.

Poor Christians are special people to God. He saves each of us on the basis of the work of Christ on the cross & not because of anything that we are or have. But the poor are more receptive to the gospel message therefore they seem favored by God.
