This clip, from Drive Thru History with Dave Stotts "The Gospels" tells the story of the Israelites who had long lived under a variety of oppressors. During the time of Jesus' birth the Jewish people were under the rule of the Roman Empire. While the Roman province of Judea and Galilee was quite small, the impact of the Roman Empire and its culture was quite prominent, and the pagan religion was a great offense to the Jewish people. Under the authority of Rome, Herod the Great was the reigning, "King of the Jews".
