About Allan
  • Education: My primary theological education took place at the Reformed Theological College in Geelong Australia. It was a five year full time Bachelor of Divinity. I also completed a Master of Arts in Theology through the Australian College of Theology. I also have a Graduate Certificate in Professional Management.
  • Experience: I have been in full time ministry for 30 years. Initially I served in the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia. In 2007 I planted a church in Brisbane which, after a few years, became part of the Queensland Baptist movement. I have been in mu current church since December 2021.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Thanks for being willing to have a look. It is humbling to know that sermons which God has graciously allowed me to write are being used all over the world. If you do end up preaching them please pray that the Spirit will use the sermons to transform and convict those to whom you speak.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Many of them do. When I preach I don’t just preach at the congregation but I also preach to myself. Having said that the sermon series which I did on the 12 disciples had a large impact on my personal thoughts about the purposes of the church and my place in it.
  • Family: I have been married for 33 years and I have three daughters who are 32, 31 and 27. I also have 3 sons-in-law and three grand-daughters. My wife has been a constant support to my ministry and I am so thankful to the Lord for providing her in my life.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They really enjoy them.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She believes I am the best preacher she has ever heard.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Keep it simple and focus on the Word.
  • Books that have had an impact: I read all the time and there are many books which have had an impact. Indeed I have found that you can be impacted from the most unlikely sources.
  • Hobbies: I am working on a HO scale model railway based on a small suburban branch-line (which no no longer exists) in Sydney.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: What I always say; "Jesus is the only way to eternal life".
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I often use the phrase "brothers and sisters" which I am addressing the congregation. However, one time, it came out as "brothers and sinners".
  • What I want on my tombstone: He let Jesus make the difference

Jesus the True Vine is the Only source of spiritual life. For us to know if we are a true disciple or a fake disciple we need recognise the difference between the Father bringing us through a difficult pruning process, or the Father cutting us off.

Message John 15:1 I Am The True Vine There are seven “I am” passages of Jesus … the last of which is found in John 15:1-6 (read) I suspect there are plenty of us who remember the “I am the vine; you are the branches” part. I wonder how many also remembered the “I am the vine, and my Father is ...read more

Knowing Jesus as the Good Shepherd gives us confidence to hear His voice because; He has laid down his life; He is committed; He knows us; and He is expanding the flock. Listen to Him.

Message John 10:11 I Am The Good Shepherd I wonder if there were days when the shepherds in first century Judea had times when they thought … “I am sick and tired of looking after these sheep.” Sheep are not the easiest animals to look after – especially for a shepherd in Jesus day. Sheep easily ...read more
