About Arliss
  • Education: Have a BA degree in Bible Theology. Chaplains Certification through Church of God’s School of Theology. 53 credit hours at Lee University in Business Management.
  • Experience: Thirty nine years of ministry. Mostly pastoral, lots of evangelism, Chaplains work, even missionary work for 5 years. Presently, writing books, chaplain with addicted teen boys, and radio ministry. Six and a half years working in food bank and housing/personal needs ministries while pastoring.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: You will not know me, nor understand me, until you know my heart. I hate prejudices with a passion. I judge a man by his message and not by his denomination. More than one of us is going to Heaven. We all need the Holy Ghost as our ultimate and most trusted teacher.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: 1.The prayer of Jabez. 2.Psalms 119:32 "If thou would enlarge my heart". 3."Whosoever will" let him come. What does whosoever will mean?
  • One of my favorite illustrations: About being born again. A VW Beetle wanted to be a Cadillac. He reached over and stole a Cadillac’s emblems and slapped them on his own hood and trunk lid. While driving down the street, those who passed him by, laughed him to corn. They yelled out, you know you have to be melted down in the refiners fire and start all over, by being re-poured into molds made by the Cadillac Company, before you can be a Cadillac. "old things pass away, behold all things become new."
  • Family: Married 41 years to my lovely wife Sue. We have 3 wonderful sons, all 3 have a call into the ministry. and have given us seven grandchildren.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Both are deceased, but loved to hear me speak. Both loved the Lord.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She loves them and she is also my best critic. Her favorite is "Some on boards and some on broken pieces of he ship, but all made it safely to land". About Pauls ship wreck.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: 1. If you cain’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch. 2. Pastoring is the sweetest misery in the world. 3. When they won’t come out to eat, improve the quality of the feed. (advice from a farmer he had learned from his cows).
  • Books that have had an impact: God Chasers The Cross and the Switchblade: by David WIlkeson
  • Hobbies: writing, research, personal soul winning
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Lord show us how to "enlarge our hearts", for in-time ministry. Ps 119:32
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: A dog was always faithful to come up and lay beside the outside entrance door.
  • What I want on my tombstone: I withheld nothing back.
