About Betty
  • Education: B.A. Sociology with honors thesis, Atlantic Baptist College, Moncton, New Brunswick; M.A. Biblical Counselling, Providence Theological Seminary, Otterburne, Manitoba. D.Min. Sioux Falls Seminary, Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  • Experience: Retired from ministry in 2017 to serve one year as a Christian Academy Principal and High School teacher. During my 20 years as a pastor, I served as an EMT, and a Law Enforcement Chaplain.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Fault Lines - Steve DeNeff
  • One of my favorite illustrations: At children’s sermon time one Sunday as I chatted with the children prior to giving the lesson, one little boy told me he was four. Thinking it might be his birthday, I asked, "Are you four today?" to which he replied, "I’m four every day!" The whole church erupted in laughter.
  • Family: Married to my husband, Ron, since October 12, 2002 (Canadian Thanksgiving). My sister is also a Wesleyan pastor. We are spiritual sisters and colleagues as well as biological sisters.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: He’s willing to tell me when they’re weak. He gives me lots of affirmation when I hit a good one!
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Be yourself. Take all the help you can get.
  • Books that have had an impact: "When Addiction Comes To Church" - Melinda Fish; "Whatever Became of Sin" - Menninger; Soul Shift, Steve DeNeff; Be Holy, Steve DeNeff; The Rest of Life, Ben Witherington III
