About Bruce
  • Education: B.S. Physics/Meteorology, Univ. of Tokyo Japan 1967.
  • Experience: I became an assoc. pastor in 1997, a full time pastor in 1999, and planted our first church in 2001. Since then, we have planted a church in Oklahoma and have started a teaching ministry back in Arizona, in addition to pastoring a couple of other churches.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: God has called each of us to do the same thing, but in different ways. I was not called to teach to those who are already highly educated in the Word, but to those who have little or no understanding of the Word - those who need Jesus in their hearts.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: I saw Billy Graham in Tokyo in the 1960's and that turned out to be a very important spiritual marker in my life.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: We are like the ducks in Duckville, USA. We line up single-file every Sunday morning and waddle all the way down the street, one behind the other, to go to church. In church, we get excited by what we hear, and flap our wings and peck our beaks. And after church, we tend to go outside, line up one behind the other, and waddle all the way back home just like we came to church a couple hours earlier . . . unaffected and unchanged by what we heard - all to do it again next week.
  • Family: I have one son and one daughter, both adults and both profess Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives. I am very proud of them. I have 5 grandchildren. My wife is an excellent teacher of Scriptures.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: When I get to heaven, I shall find out.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She is my second main source of strength as I pursue hard after Jesus. (Jesus is my first .... Phil. 4:13)
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Pray before, during, and after for guidance from the Holy Spirit.
  • Books that have had an impact: Of course, the Bible is the #1 impact in my life.
  • Hobbies: My family is my highest earthly focus. I like to do oil paintings, build model cars, and I enjoy reading and doing web graphics.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Jesus loves you with a love that is so great that we cannot comprehend. And through that love for us, we are offered all of the glory of God. But we must go through Jesus to get it. There is no other way. If we want what He wants to give, we must do it His way and not our own.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: As a new preacher, I was a guest speaker at a church that expressed itself through yelling, rolling on the floor, barking, etc. (Not saying that is wrong ... just different from anything I had experienced before.) I was flustered as the congregation continually yelled out praises during my sermon. At closing prayer, I meant to say, "Bless us until we come back for the next service ..." but what I said in my broken concentration was ... "Bless us until we come back for the next circus."
  • What I want on my tombstone: I am most thankful that Jesus loved me so much, He was willing to wait on me until I loved Him back.

  • Job 3

    Contributed on Sep 16, 2019

Job had kept his hurt within himself because there was no one else with which to share it, but when three of his friends came to him, he finally began to vent. Chapter 3 shows us that when we are unable to understand God's reasons, we must still trust in His wisdom.

We have been talking about the book of JOB, which some scholars believe to be the oldest book of the bible, and written by Moses as he wandered the deserts. So far, in chapters 1 and 2, we see where Satan got permission from God to attack Job. The only stipulation was that Satan would not cause ...read more

This is the second attempt by Satan to get Job to curse God after the first attempt failed. This shows that true lovers of the Lord will remain true lovers of the Lord, even in times of deep trouble or grief.

Last Sunday, we talked about how Job lost everything he had, including all physical property along with all his children. And how, even though he suffered, he did not blame God, but chose to worship God instead. Today, Satan gives him another test designed to test his loyalty to God, and we will ...read more

  • The Woman At The Well

A woman who was despised by the Jews and the Samaritans finds living water at the well on a hot afternoon. And she becomes an evangelist for the Lord. Intriguing and example-setting yet today for all of us.

Today, let’s talk about another woman who was saved by the power of Jesus Christ; a woman we have all referred to as “The Woman at the Well.” We find her story in the 4th chapter of the book of JOHN. As we read the Gospels, we see that Jesus’ approach to proclaiming the Good News was decidedly ...read more

Mary Magdalene is another of the many women in the bible who has been shown to have had very strong faith and who served in some capacity of a ministry. Hers was to support the Lord Jesus and his disciples as they traveled the countryside preaching the Good News.

We have recently been studying about some of the women of the bible who had strong faith. I would like to continue that theme this morning by talking about Mary Magdalene; another woman who had exceptionally strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was called Mary Magdalene because she was from ...read more

In Joshua 2, we read about a woman named Rahab. She was a prostitute who had faith in God, helped the Israelites, and even became the 35th great-grandmother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please turn in your bibles to the book of JOSHUA, chapter 2. Our subject today will be on a woman named Rahab. Rahab was a prostitute. Should we shun her or love her? I think most people would be surprised to know we are called to love her with our hearts. But to do this we must first ...read more

THE NEW GUY We all need real hope. There were four ladies in a nursing home one time that were sitting there talking, and the nurse brings in a new man to the facility. He was quite dapper for an older man, and one of the ladies asked him where he had been for so long. He responded by ...read more

In verse 15, it tells us what will happen to those people who do not accept the Evil One’s mark: “15 … and all who refuse to worship the image or take his mark will be killed.” I saw recently where Motorola has developed an all inclusive data chip that is no larger than a grain of rice. It ...read more

  • The Savior And The Judge

THE SAVIOR AND THE JUDGE I heard a story that took place in a western town in the late 1800's. It told of a horse that was spooked and then bolted, running away uncontrollably with a small boy in the bed of the wagon. Seeing the child was in grave danger, a young man risked his life to catch ...read more

  • Victor, Not The Victim

VICTOR, NOT THE VICTIM I used to work for the Post Office and when I became serious about the Lord, it must have really shown in my actions and words, because people all of a sudden began making fun of me and giving me snide comments. At times it was difficult, but I remained steadfast in my ...read more
