  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Trust the Spirit of Christ to anoint you in the secrecy of your study and the pulpit for His glory.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Expository Series in Gospel of John Construction of a Kingdom, a character study of David
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Everyone should have a personal experience with the cross... Russian president Vladimir Putin met with President Bush and shared a personal story about a small cross given to him when he was very young. In her book When Character Was King, journalist Peggy Noonan reports on their conversation. When Putin was young, his mother gave him a cross to wear around his neck. Although he initially hid it in a jewelry case, he eventually decided to wear it. He even had it blessed while on a trip to Jerusalem. It became a treasured symbol of a mother’s love and her cherished faith until a small house fire caused the cross to be lost. Following the house fire, Putin was greatly disturbed. He dispatched an employee to sift through the charred remains of the building to try and find it. After an extensive search, the employee reported to Putin and held out a closed hand. He opened it and revealed the prized cross. Putin told Bush: "It was as if something meant for me to have the cross." President Bush responded, "Mr. Putin, that’s what it’s all about—that’s THE story of the cross."
