About Dane
  • Education: MDiv
  • Experience: 23 years
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: You can do all your exegesis and have all your facts down pat but if you don't know where the sermon lives--where it touches your congregation--don't preach it until you do.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Chuck Swindoll's Living Beyond the Daily Grind; Charle's Stanley's sermons on our identity in Christ.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: The story of how God met my 19-year-old daughter in power and mercy and freed her from her addiction to anorexia and exercise.
  • Family: Married 35 years, three grown daughters, all of them walking with the Lord.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: She thinks they're awesome.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She thinks they're great. No, really.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "No matter where you go in ministry, always remember, people will act like people." My mother-in-law said that shortly after I married. She just passed after 75 years of serving God on the piano bench.
  • Books that have had an impact: Too many to list. Authors include: Chuck Swindoll, Chuck Colson, Phillip Yancey, Stu Webber, Rick Warren. As far as preaching is concerned, by far Haddon Robinson's Biblical Preaching has shaped my whole ministry and life.
  • Hobbies: Flying, riding motorcycles, writing.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: 2 Timothy 4:1-5. Do your work. Don't be lazy about exegesis. Preach the whole counsel of God with courage and forthrightness. Trust God with the results and do not take counsel of your fears.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: After my first trial sermon, a little old lady shook my hand and pressed this note into my palm: "Lord, fill my head with all good stuff, then nudge me hard when I've said enough."
  • What I want on my tombstone: He worked hard at preaching and teaching.
