About David
  • Education: After the Marine Corps I went on the air to become a DJ. I got off the air to return to "normalcy" and went back to school to become a computer programmer. After attending the University of Houston I began that career, but after retiring, my calling -which has been lifelong and ignored by me- became so strong, I had to go back on the air to preach.
  • Experience: As a lay preacher (speaker, it’s called in the UMC) only preaching on the radio. However I have begun a retirement home ministry so that every Sunday morning I preach to those in need. You can believe me when I tell you I get more back than I give in that ministry.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Listen to them, don’t read them. That’s the difference between studying a map and actually experiencing the road!
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Don’t all sermons make a difference in someone’s life? Anyway, go to my website, if you care to and see if there’s anything there that would make a difference. I suppose my unorthodox preaching is listened to either with horror or delight. I’ll let someone else tell you the difference it’s made in thier lives. For my life, I can tell I’m happier and feel more complete than I’ve ever felt in my life.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Remember that the name of my ministry is "Jesus Christ Said." I love to end my radio broadcast with "And be good to one another. That’s what Jesus Christ Said!"
  • Family: My wife Pat, the public schools kindergarten teacher, and I are the parents of three grown children and four (soon to be five) grandchildren. Plus two dogs.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Both are deceased. But I believe they’re pleased.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She always tells me "Your best ever." But then she says that when I cook for us, sooooooo.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: The book "A pratical guide to sermon preparation" by Jerry Vines said "God makes the man, the man makes the sermon." This greatly relieved me, since God has been working on me for so long, something good must have "rubbed off." Also, my preacher, Dr. Jerry Chism, at my home church (Arlington Heights UMC in Fort Worth) told me that if I didn’t preach as a lay person, when he did my eulogy, he knew I’d be very sad.
  • Books that have had an impact: So many books I’ve read in my life, I can’t boil it down to one or even a short list. Every book is like a visit with a friend.
  • Hobbies: Birdwatching. Traveling (limited by money.) cooking (and eating)
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Oh, I’ll preach a lot of one more times, if God allows me.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: A little woman in a wheel chair that while I preach at the nursing home -which of course has all kinds of denominations- , keeps rolling her wheel chair around in circles. It doesn’t distract me at all (I guess I’m so focused on the word.) BUT, my wife calls her "our holy roller."
  • What I want on my tombstone: Send me, Lord

Sermon: Most of us, at one time or another, have flown in a commercial jet. They are powerful. You sit there at the end of the runway waiting for the pilot to spool up or rev up the engines, and you hear that whine, that loud whine as they get going and then the pilot releases the brakes and ...read more

We are our own Garden of Eden, our place of tranquility and peace on Earth, but only when God and Jesus Christ live in us, daily, all the time. We must follow and do what Jesus Christ said, both as individuals and as a nation. We are all sinners from th

The true Garden of Eden does exist and that as we come full circle from innocence to sinner back to being saved from sin, we come from the Garden of Eden to the living water of Jesus Christ to our own Garden of Eden, within us all. But to get to that point we Christians, those of us who follow ...read more

Are the church house doors open to all or not? Do we, as followers of Christ, welcome everyone or not? Are we going to judge those passing though our doors, especially in time of death and the sorrow that surrounds that? Christ wants us to be includers

There’s the story of President Calvin Coolidge who was better known back in the 1920s when he was President of the United States (1923-1929), he was known as “Silent Cal” because he didn’t like to speak very often. This drove the reporters of that day up the wall. The story goes that he ...read more
