About Don
  • Education: B.S. Sociology McMurry University, Abilene, Tx. 1986 M. Div. Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Ky. 1992 D. Min. Lake Charles Bible, Lake Charles, La. 1998
  • Experience: 16 years in the pastoral ministry, 6 years in evangelism as an evangelist 2 years in full-time ministry with chemically addicted persons
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I pray these sermons will be helpful to you. You need to know that these sermons are preached at the chapel of the drug treatment center in which I am chaplain. Thus these sermons touch on addiction and recovery and how a relationship with Christ deals with recovery.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Series on Forgiveness, Series on the Parables from a Middle Eastern understanding, Series on Psalm 23
  • One of my favorite illustrations: A preacher was preaching a soul searching sermon on pride. After the service a lady came up to him and said, "I am very distressed in mind because of pride. A few days ago I sat by my mirror for hours admiring my beauty." The pastor replied, "That’s not a in of pride. That’s a sin of imagination." We are not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought.
  • Family: Wife, Mary 2 children: Ginny and Christian
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My mom thinks my sermons are great. My brothers and sister think they are okay. Somewher between those two points is reality.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She says I preach sermons with good content though she holds her breath at points when I "stop preaching and go to meddling."
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Seek more annointing than being eloquent in speech. Also, be real.
  • Books that have had an impact: Absolute Surrender by Chuck Swindoll Total Forgiveness by R.K. Kendall Jesus and the Book and Jesus and the Land by Charles Page The Intercessions of Rees Howells
  • Hobbies: Horseback riding Travel
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: The Church in America has offended God through our passive approval of sin within our ranks as well as within our culture. God is calling the church to repentance so that we may receive his mercy, grace, and outpouring of His Spirit.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I almost fell into a grave while doing a graveside service.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He loved the Lord and his family.
