• Education: Batchelor of Arts in History, Belmont University, Nashville, TN, 1976 Master of Divinity, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX, 1980 Some work toward Doctor of Ministry at Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, FL, 1984
• Experience: I pastored for thirty nine years. Most of my pastorates have been either student or full time pastorates. My last pastorate was a bi-vocational pasatorate. In January 2002, I retired from Municipal government (city clerk for the Town of Sunflower) to devote my full time to the church. Since retireing, I have joined my wife in representing AFLAC. We are both associates with AFLAC in Cleveland, TN.
• Comment to those looking at my sermons: Feel free to "Put your handle in my ax" and swing away. After all, there is nothing new. Someone, somewhere, has alread said it before.
• Sermon or series that made a difference: Series on 1 John
• Family: I am married and have four adult children. My wife of 44+ years is Rebecca. She is the daughter of a baptist preacher. My late father was a pastor, and my two brothers are pastors.
• What my parents think of my sermons: They think that I am the best preacher they have heard. Of course they are a little biased.
• What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She is very supportive and complements me. She rarely has any criticism for me.
• Best advice given to me about preaching: When you go into the pulpit, just be yourself and not try to preach like someone you admire. Allow God to use you. He called you to be who you are.
• Books that have had an impact: There are so many, it is hard to name just a few. Books by John MacAuthor, Max Lucado, Tim LaHaye, Charles Stanley, Adrian Rodgers, Warren Wiersbe, are just a few
• Hobbies: Golf, Reading
• If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: I hope that I can continue to preach until the Lord calls me home. My father died at 79, and was still pastoring!
• What I want on my tombstone: He was a caring pastor who ministered to others.
