About James
  • Education: Liberty University’s "External Degree Program. I was unable to finish, due to lack of time and money, when first called to Pastor Elim Bible Church. I am now back with Liberty University and close to my Associates degree. My wife and I closed our business, December 2012, in order for me to pastor full time.
  • Experience: Called to the gospel ministry 1993 to Pastor Bi-Vocational since 1994. Own an auto repair shop that gives so many opportunities, not only for witness but for ministry. My heart has always been for small rural churches that can’t afford a large salary. I figure if the Apostle Paul could make tents to get by so can I.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I will always try to give credit where credit is due. Please use what you will and bring glory to God with it.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: I think the imformation on fasting has been an eye opener for me. That is something that we as Baptist just don’t seem to talk about. God has seriously changed my life and attitude of the folks at Elim Bible Church.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: The farmer and the mule who fell into the well. "Just shake it off and step up"
  • Family: My wonderful Bride, Suzanne, has been with me for 33 years and given me two terrific daughters. Along with our girls are their loving husbands and our grandchildren.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My Mom is with the Lord but before she died, she was sure glad to see the new me and the message of hope instead of hate. My Dad is home with Jesus now but he encouraged me to stay in the fight and keep preaching the Gospel.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She just walked in so I’ll ask her. She likes the way I present the Word in a way that the average person can understand. Not all the people in the pew are college Grads.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Preach the gospel and nothing but the gospel.
  • Books that have had an impact: I walked to my book shelf to answer this question and, I would have to say The Word of God. This one book changed my life, my past, my present and my future.
  • Hobbies: Fishing,Phoography &hunting **except I havn’t been since what seemed like a million wasp made me jump from 12 feet. Just hanging out with my best friend and Bride Suzanne.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: We all may be traveling on the same road but eventually we all come to a fork in that road. When we get there we realize that there are only two ways to go. One road leads to destruction and the other to Heaven. Problem is in order to get to Heaven you MUST go over the Cross and through the Blood of Jesus.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: For some I guess this was funny. During the early days at my first church, we had a mom begin to play hide and seek with her toddler. That wouldn’t be so bad but it was during the worship service and they were playing around the pulpit. Talk about the devil trying to stop the message.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Jimmy Lee; A man poured out on Jesus or "He was just a nobody who told everybody all about Somebody who saved his soul."
