About James
  • Education: Master of Divinity 1985. Doctor of Ministry 2005 with emphasis in church health.
  • Experience: Ordained in 1981. Youth minister for 15 years. Married adult minister for 6 years. Campus pastor for 5 years. Mission trips to North Carolina, New York, Montana, Mexico, Honduras, Peru. Attended conferences at Willow Creek, Flamingo Road, Saddleback and Catalyst.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: My sermons are dry bones of no use to anyone unless the Holy Spirit breathes life into them.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Anday Stanley - Catalyst 2005 & 2006
  • One of my favorite illustrations: The little boy who stood in the offering plate because he didn’t have any other offering.
  • Family: Wife of 24 years is a school teacher and two grown children in college.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Better than my dads (Both of them! My parents, that is!)!
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Too...too...too, many stories, much volume, long!
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: There is no such thing as a bad short sermon.
  • Books that have had an impact: Simple Church; The Unexpected Journey; Be the Leader You Were Meant to Be; The Leadership Bible; Wisdom Hunter; The Presence; This Present Darkness; Discover Your Strengths; What Every Christian Needs to Know About Growing; Last Christian Generation
  • Hobbies: Snow Skiing and biking. Going Fast.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Talk to people about Jesus everyday! Do nothing from selfish ambition...consider others better than yourself.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I asked a rhetorical question while praying that had something to do with soccer (dumb!) and a 3 year old answered out loud for all to hear. At least she was listening...I love you Heather!
  • What I want on my tombstone: He ran with his eyes fixed on JESUS....he finished strong!
