About John
  • Education: BS in Structural Eng. from Finlay Eng. College
  • Experience: Served as fill-in minister at local churches. Weekly devotions at Nursing Homes, apartment complexes
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Preaching never blessed me as much as the study and preparation
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Too many to count
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Love to use the story of the Gadarene demoniac, especially when talking to children.
  • Family: Wife: Sierra (49 yrs) children: Mike (Ks) Mary (SC) grandchildren (6) Kara, Chloe, Deacon, Emanuel, Justus, Colton
  • What my parents think of my sermons: never heard me.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: I think that I often bored her, because we sometimes spoke 8-10 times a week and I would use the same sermon several times.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Remember, you know more about what you are talking about than those you are talking to.
  • Books that have had an impact: Thru the Bible by J. Vernon McGee
  • Hobbies: fishing, painting, preparing Bible studies
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: If you ever do too much for God, tell me; but I don't think you ever will.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: In a Nursing Home I had an elderly lady get up from her seat, walk down the Isle and try to get the microphone away from me, all the time declaring I wasn't talking loud enough and she was going to show me how to use the microphone. I won the wrestling contest. Several times had the patent's cat visit our services-she was a good listener.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He loved God.

They were angry with Gideon because they were left out and did not share in the glory. Gideon tactfully gave them the “soft answer” that healed the wounds and prevented division. Better to do that than to start another war.

Chapter 27 Gideon Prudently Pacifies the Offended Ephramites [Judges 8.1-8.4] Scripture 1 And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply. 2 And he said unto them, ...read more

    Contributed on Mar 18, 2019

“If the suffering we presently endure brings great hardship, cruel and unusual punishment, severe persecution, or even death itself, none of these evils can compare with the heavenly bliss that is awaiting those who are in Christ Jesus.”

    (27) The Blessing of Hope Romans 8:18-25 Scripture 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For ...read more
