About Joseph Neil
  • Education: Queens College Birmingham (Theology)
  • Experience: In 12th Year of Ministry, having served in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Bilston, Hinckley & Sutton Coldfield. Had a fabulous Ministerial Exchange to Flagler Beach in FL - made so many friends there & in Orlando - God bless America!
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Too many to name.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: About worship - smile this shouldn’t look like a dentist waiting room.
  • Family: Very happily married with 4 children aged 21 to 9.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Dad died sadly 14 years ago & not sure where he stood before the Lord. Mom is not a Christian. When I told them I had been saved they thought I had joined a cult & I am still viewed with restrained suspicion by my family. Hope they were / she is proud but really I think she would be happier if I had a real job.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My strongest critic & fiercest ally. She thinks I am better & more blessed & used by God than I do. I always finish each service by kissing Jane & asking her how things went. Without her I would be nothing.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Told by old local preacher when I began preaching that I should always be a little nervous about walking to the lectern or pulpit because if i wasn’t then I would be depending on my own skills not on the Holy Spirit. I always remember that & ask God to take this shy man & pour His strength & grace through me to others.
  • Books that have had an impact: Yancey - What’s so amazing about grace. Loads of others, but music has an impact too - Casting Crowns, Delirious? etc encourage me & challenge me.
  • Hobbies: Family. NFL, Football (season ticket holder at Wolverhampton Wanderers) Music, reading. Anything that makes me laugh
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: God loves you far more than you realise & is far more willing to forgive than we dare to imagine.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: Once had shorts & T Shirt on under a suit & in an all age service stripped down to them, I think to illustrate that things are not always what they seem or something like that. A young girl about 4 got so embarrassed she hide behind the piano & wouldn’t talk to me properly for about 3 years!
  • What I want on my tombstone: Gone home.
