About Lance
  • Education: I do not have any formal ministry education other than the "school of hard knocks." I have been involved in youth ministry for 11 years and I love what I do today more than I did when I started. I try to be a teachable person and learn through observing the lives of people I respect and asking them questions.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I am desperately trying to reach God and desperately trying to reach a generation of young people. I feel that if I can connect with God he will give me favor to connect with a young generation. I love teens and believe they can be minister of the gospel right now. They are not the church of tomorrow, they are a part of the church RIGHT NOW!
  • One of my favorite illustrations: A mother walked out to call her son in from the swimming in the lake behind their house. She noticed an alligator swimming for her son, so she yelled at him to swim quickly towards the boat dock. When the son arrived she reached out for him, but the alligator arrived at the same time and grabbed onto the boy’s legs. A great tug of war ensued over the boy. The alligator was hungry and biting the boys legs while the mother was desperate to save her son and her nails digging deep into the boy’s arms. As the battle raged on the screaming from the mother captured the attention of a man passing by in his vehicle. He notice the alligator and the mother fighting for her son, he grabbed his gun and went and killed the alligator. They rushed the boy to the hospital to attend to his deep gashes and wounds. Several days later people were showing up to see the boy. They wanted to see his legs and the alligator wounds. The boy obliged and showed the people his wounds, but with pride they wanted them to see his arms. "Take a look at my arms" said the boy. "See these scars here, these are from my mom because she wouldn’t let go of me." I believe that the devil rages for our souls and that life leaves us scarred, but there are scars in our arms where God refuses to let us go and fights for us to live in the abundance of grace.
  • Family: I have been married for 12 years and have two great kids, a boy and a girl. I love to read, play golf and basketball and most of all spend time with my wife and two kids.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: That Charles Spurgeon was an amateur compared to me (hahaha just kidding)! She loves them and always helps me strive to be a better and more effective communicator to young people.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Be real. Do not be afraid to display a level of vulnerability when preaching. Study hard and know the context of what you are teaching and know your target audience. Establish common ground with people, tell them what they know to be true and then point your message back to the cross of Christ.
  • Books that have had an impact: There are several. Here are a few that I have enjoyed.\ Too Busy not to Pray - Bill Hybels Fire on the Horizon - Winkie Pratney The Pursuit of God - A. W. Tozer Meat for Men - Leanord Ravenhill His Needs, Her Needs - ???????? Visioneering - Andy Stanley
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Commit your life to Jesus. Be born again. Whether we believe in heaven or hell, does not take away from the fact that they are real places. Repent and be born again so that you may live in the freedom of the grace of God.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Lance was a worshipper of God!
